*2019-2020 Scholarship Initiative for Black Student Leadership Council organizations*

Greetings, from the Black Student Leadership Council (BSLC) organization on UTSA's campus. The Black Student Leadership Council was established in Fall 2011. Our council members are composed of a variety of students from different organizations, majors, and backgrounds. As stated in our Mission Statement (on Rowdylink) our role is to motivate the community involvement, service, leadership, and legacy among the black community on UTSA's campus. In addition to that the executive board of BSLC have come up with an initiative that we hope you would be interested in participating in.

This academic year, BSLC would like to issue out its first scholarship! The goal of this scholarship will be to reward an organization that we represent. We are looking to reward the organization that implements the vision of our mission statement. We have composed a list of requirements that each organization would have to fulfill in order to be eligible for the scholarship. The requirements are as follows: Organizations participation/attendance to

• BSLC's Representative/President Meetings
• BSLC Town Halls
• Events that target the UTSA Black community
• An essay that goes into detail on what the org would do if they were to receive the scholarship.

Our financial goal, is for the scholarship to be given in the minimum amount of $500 any maximum amount is welcomed. We hope to partner with UTSA and San Antonio groups, alumni, and faculty that would be willing to invest in the black student organizations on our campus.

Best Wishes,
Stephanie Nwazojie & Daleshana Crosby

Message from the BFSA President:

Inclusivity Dialogue Session

Just a friendly reminder,

Please RSVP to participate in the first inclusivity dialogue session by 5pm on July 25 by emailing Cynthia Arreola at [email protected] if you are planning to attend. Facilitators are Dr. Myron Anderson, Vice President for Inclusive Excellence and Suzanne Patrick, Director of Equal Opportunity Services and Title IX Coordinator.

The session will take place on July 29 from 2pm until 3pm in Main Building, Room 2.220. The skype connection for the downtown campus will be in Durango Bldg., DB 1.122.

Dean of Students LT Robinson will serve as an advocate for those who do not wish to speak. If you have any concerns that you would like to address, you can email LT at [email protected], and she will speak on your behalf.

Outcomes
One of the outcomes I’m aiming for is to contribute toward creating policies or practices to improve retention of Black staff. I think this could improve with recruiting and hiring more African Americans in positions of power such as Deans, directors, department chairs, etc. and also addressing how can the institution eliminate micro aggressions in the workplace that perpetuate the negative stereotypes associated with Black females.

Please feel free to send me ([email protected]) your suggestions of some of the goals you have in mind for the meeting. Thank you.
