Meet our 2026 Outstanding Student Research & Creative Activities Award winners 👏

Luis F. Gonzalez (Graduate) is advancing research in neuroscience, studying how early-life exposure to substances impacts sleep, attention, and long-term brain development. His work spans psychopharmacology, public health, and science policy, earning him multiple research awards and national recognition.

Shaun Colegado (Undergraduate) explores how people interact with AI, focusing on the reliability and transparency of large language models. His work in human-centered design and conversational AI has led to international research opportunities, including a Fulbright Canada-Mitacs Globalink Research Internship.

From the brain to AI systems, their work reflects innovation, impact, and academic excellence.

The 15th Annual Meeting of the Minds was a tremendous success, bringing together the CSUSB community to celebrate student research, innovation, and academic excellence. Held alongside the Defining the Future Conference, this year’s event highlighted the incredible work and dedication of our student researchers.

CSUSB Undergraduate Summer Research Program (USRP) ✨
Empowering undergraduates through hands-on research, mentorship, and professional development!

📅 Applications
Online applications open December 1, 2025 via InfoReady.
Faculty MUST apply (students not required to be identified yet).
Application Deadline: January 30, 2026.

📚 Program Overview
10-week funded summer research experience (starts June 2026).
Workshops to build research, presentation & grad-school readiness.
Faculty–student social event.
Ends with an undergraduate research conference.

👩‍🏫 Faculty Role
Mentor 2–3 students.
Receive a $5,000 stipend.
Limit summer teaching to one course.
Meet weekly & include students in professional tasks.
Attend orientation, social event & conference.
Students must be identified by March 20, 2026.

🎓 Student Requirements
CSUSB undergraduates (not graduating before Fall 2026).
Work 20 hrs/week at $17.01/hr.
Attend all workshops & OSRI activities.
Present at the Summer Conference & Meeting of the Minds.
Submit a 2–3 page abstract/report for OSRI Journal.
