Because of your generosity, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is one step closer to honoring Dr. Tammy Dwyer’s incredible legacy. 🧪✨

The Tammy J. Dwyer Endowed Fellowship honors beloved professor, accomplished NMR spectroscopist, and dedicated mentor Dr. Tammy Dwyer. This fund sustains summer research opportunities for Chemistry and Biochemistry majors, particularly those aspiring to graduate study.

Together, we’re building a student research endowment that will empower future Toreros to pursue transformative summer research experiences at research-intensive universities. Your gifts, big and small, made a lasting impact.

đź“Ś Required: Federal Work-Study included in 2025-2026 Financial Aid Offer and completion of or concurrent enrollment in CHEM 151
🧪 Sample Duties:
• Check Chem 151L/152L lab stations and reagents and replenish as needed
• Fill de-ionized water carboys
• Assist in basic inventory control
• Replenish demonstration kits
• Type, photocopy, cut and paste miscellaneous assignments
• Take down Chem 151/152 experiments
• Wash and put away glassware
• Assist with departmental tasks as needed

Please join us Tuesday, July 15th at 12:15 PM in SCST 133 for a summer seminar featuring P. Andrew Evans, PhD. Professor P. Andrew Evans is the Alfred R. Bader Chair of Organic Chemistry and a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Organic and Organometallic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at Queen’s University.

Title: Stereoselective Construction of Challenging C-C Bonds and the Development of Antimetastatic Agents

Abstract: The seminar will explore the development and application of new stereoselective C-C bond-forming reactions in the synthesis of bioactive agents. Specifically, it will highlight a novel dynamic kinetic resolution of a,b-unsaturated aldehydes, the catalytic asymmetric alkylation of homoenolates and the development of a concise, efficient and scalable synthesis of antimetastatic agents.

Title: “From Methane to Methane: Forty Years of Research and Insight Into One of the Most Important Greenhouse Gases”

Abstract: Dr. Blake’s presentation will discuss his group’s pioneering methane research since the 1970s, including insights into straightforward strategies to improve landfill infrastructure to reduce methane emissions to the atmosphere.
