Meet Charlie V., a B.A. in Public Administration graduate, community leader, father, and advocate in long-term recovery. After overcoming addiction, incarceration, and years of adversity, Charlie has dedicated his life to helping others find their path forward.

Today, he works to support individuals impacted by substance use, reentry, and homelessness, proving that recovery is possible and that a person's past does not define their future.

His message: "Your past does not define you. Stay disciplined, do the work, and do not give up." This , we're honored to highlight Charlie's story of resilience, recovery, and hope. 💙

Mike Roberts used to sit in rooms full of software engineers and rarely see anyone who looked like him. So, he decided to do something about it. 💻

After 30+ years as a software engineer, Mike founded Creating Coding Careers (CCC) in 2019 — a free nonprofit apprenticeship program that removes the barriers of traditional coding boot camps and connects overlooked talent with real careers in tech. Since launching, CCC has placed graduates at some of the biggest names in tech — ServiceNow, Apple, IBM, Meta, AWS, Sony, and more. Hundreds of careers launched.

In 2025, Mike was honored as both a Black Leader of Influence and Nonprofit Board Leader of Influence by the San Diego Business Journal — recognition that reflects what he's been quietly building all along.

We're proud to spotlight Mike as part of the . His story is proof that the most powerful career move you can make is the one that opens doors for others.

On , we recognize that grief can shape us in profound ways while reminding us to cherish the people who matter the most.

Meet Tami (NU, EdD ‘25 MEd ‘11 Cred ‘04) whose journey has been shaped by resilience, reflection, and the lasting impact of loved ones she’s lost. Through it all, she has learned the importance of embracing life’s moments and moving forward with purpose.

Her advice: “No matter what we’re navigating, see the doors that open in front of you, and don’t miss opportunities when they arrive.” 💙
