Happy Spotlight Monday! Meet Tyler from Cohort 8! ✨

——————

Hello! My name is Tyler DiLorenzo and I am from Santa Clara, California. I lived the life of an athlete growing up with three siblings each engaged in our respective sports. My parents ran themselves ragged between traveling for my hockey or one of my sibling’s many
events. But one thing was always a constant, we would always travel as a family to support each other at our games. Whether we had to be dragged out or went willingly, we were there for each other. Looking back, I am so glad we did that.

After high school, I moved here to San Diego to attend SDSU for my undergraduate degree with the plans of pursuing a Doctorate of Physical Therapy beyond that. I joined a fraternity, took up rock climbing, began snorkeling and continued to try to live life to the fullest. I worked at Torrey Pines Orthopaedic Medical Group as a PT aide and volunteered at the VA San Diego to gain experience in the field. Nearing the end of my undergraduate days, I became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and began personal training. I took a year off school after graduating and continued to work and volunteer in those settings before applying to
the SDSU DPT program.

I ended up getting waitlisted and was devastated. I thought there was no chance and had written it off. Then, about a month later, I received a call from Dr. Rauh that I will never forget.
He offered me a spot in the program, and I did not even have to think twice. I accepted. The Summer of 2019, I showed up to my first class. What I didn’t realize at the time is that this group
would become my new San Diego family.

I can’t help but smile thinking of how grateful I am to be a part of this program and to be working towards becoming a Physical Therapist with all of these people around me. It makes me
so happy that all of these experiences have led me to this point and I am excited to use what I am gaining here to positively affect the patients I work with in the future!

Have a good one y’all!

Happy Spotlight Monday! Meet Danae of Cohort 8 ✨

———

My name is Danae and I was born and raised in sunny San Diego. Growing up in such a huge melting pot, I have been immersed in many diverse communities. Through my physical therapy journey, I hope to bridge the gap between healthcare providers and patients by providing patient-centered care and emphasizing empathy in all treatments. My appreciation for fitness and movement stems from my background in dance, cheer, and mat pilates. I have retired from cheerleading, but you can still find me cheering on my Cohort 8 team during midterms week with my Professor Dr.Buono impersonations and “finger rule” — or by making up weird dance moves to memorize muscle origins, insertions, actions, and innervations (OIANs) and Special Tests.

When I’m not studying, you can find me organizing or brainstorming ideas for the next meeting — where me and other students embrace the difficult but necessary conversations to promote inclusivity and diversity. As future clinicians who will eventually establish a social role within our respective communities, I find this very important as our duty to all of our patients.

Outside of school, I love to take advantage of the San Diego sun by spending time with my family at the beach paddle boarding. I also enjoy winding down with my ukulele and loop pedal, editing videos, and dabbling in art.

SDSU DPT has given me a high-quality learning experience and gifted me with life-long friendships, memories, mentors, and life lessons that I will cherish forever. To any of you who are debating on attending SDSU DPT’s program — do it! You won’t regret it.
