We had an amazing time as speakers, presenters, facilitators, information providers, and overall welcoming humans for CIIS New Student Orientation last week!

Our Vice President Rachel Bryant provided welcoming words about being in community and caring for one another. Valentina Salazar, one our program managers, hosted her Beauty is Medicine workshop, Adriana Beltrame de Dos, our second program manager, provided an introduction to CIIS’ new mural space and renovated meditation room on campus as well as a short mediation, and we were excited to have Ananda Bliss join us and provide a powerful, grounded, beautiful sound healing session for new students and a second for staff.

More videos to come from our experiences at NSO!

We are excited for this new academic year and welcome all new and returning students!

Our DCEB team went to OMCA a few weeks ago and had a wonderful time visiting the amazing exhibitions and checking out their fantastic store!

We picked up this nature meditations card deck and will be sharing its meditations periodically here

For our Provost Dr. Kathy Littles, her pathway to CIIS and to the Provost office began with a love for art, museums, and working to ensure that Black art and historical context was integral to the museum process. That holistic and integral lens supported Provost Littles in her museum career and now at CIIS.

In February 2026, Provost Littles joined us for an engaging and powerful Transformation session on Black Art Movements and Transformation, where attendees heard more about Provost Littles’ work in museums and how those passions and work experiences inform her work as CIIS’ Provost.

Watch the clip here and head to our Linktree to watch a longer clip on our YouTube channel. Stay tuned for our fall Transformation Series including Damali Robertson, David Mitchell, and Mia Cruz.

Video description: Provost Kathy Littles headshot is the first video visual we see along with banners that detail the title, her name, and the series name. It swipes to Provost Littles on Zoom talking to Rachel and Shirley about the sanitation of history, specifically Black history.

The DCEB team took a recent trip to the OMCA to check out the new Mildred Howard Exhibition!

Here’s what OMCA has to say about the exhibit
“Mildred Howard: Poetics of Memory is the first major museum exhibition to celebrate the work of beloved Bay Area artist Mildred Howard. Spanning Howard’s five-decade practice, Poetics of Memory brings together her renowned collages, found-object sculptures, and immersive installations that explore memory, identity, and the African American experience. New and never-before-seen pieces punctuate the exhibition, while archival materials from Howard’s Oakland studio illuminate the cultural currents and lived experiences that shape her practice.”🫶🏽

We’re so inspired by the community work and conversations that have started from this born and raised Bay Area icon 🤩 check it out for yourself and let us know what you’re taking away!
