Springtime sketches! β˜€οΈπŸŒΏβœοΈ Swipe left for a showcase of some graduate students' sketches from our Drawing as Process class. These were created with the purpose of developing methods to record the environment. Take a closer look at how they capture the beauty of our surroundings. Drawing, honing observational skills, and distinguishing between the objective and subjective are all critical for a landscape architect.

Welcome to the Tunnel Tops Park! 🏞🌳

Come to relax and take in the views, and stay for the beautiful designs and social experience!

Conceived and executed by America's top landscape architects, the Park is part of the progressive planning movement to prevent freeways from encircling the City and cutting people off from the waterfront. πŸŒ‰ Located in San Francisco’s historic Presidio, it has a playful design that invites and encourages all visitors to explore with its colorful winding pathways and the concealed activity spaces between the topography and vegetation.

More info⬇️

There is heavy use of organic shapes and natural forms throughout the space, which is a nice opposition to the formal lawns just across the street in the main lawn. All elements of the design use a neutral palette combined with wood or a rough textured material such as the wooden benches or gravel-like pathways continuing the theme of nature and natural resources. Even with all of the different spaces, the park is very open with unobstructed views to the bay and the city because of the clever use of berms and low walls. Additionally, just beyond the hill the park connects to the Bay Trail encouraging visitors to experience the bay front, Crissy Marsh, and other San Francisco scenes. Overall, this park is a great place for all people to come, relax, and take in the views.

Installation of Dale Chihuly sculptures at , June 2012. πŸ’₯ What do you think of these sculptures? Let us know in the comments!πŸ‘‡

The aboretum was redesigned in three phases by Lanscape Architect Warren Johnson, Texas Tec. University. After the completion of the second and final phase of the aboretum's master plan, exhibitions were placed on the site to attract public participation and to reveal the plant and landscape design. The Chihuly exibit ran from May 2012 through November 2012.

A round of applause for LAN grad student and Track & Field National Champion πŸ†πŸ†πŸ† Mathieu Tshani! πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘

Mathieu is an international student-athlete from France with a background in Urban Studies and Planning. He told us about the strong support and encouragement he's received from his instructors in the School of Landscape Architecture, which helped him get into the right mental space to break the school record three times during the outdoor season -- and he ended it as the 2022 NCAAD2 men’s outdoor triple jump National Champion! Congrats on your accomplishment, Mathieu!

He also told us, "I am looking forward to next year which I hope will be full of trophies. The best reward of all being my Landscape Architecture degree."
