"Dr. Robyn Crook, Associate Professor of Biology and Allen Distinguished Investigator, was quoted in the New York Times in an article on the ethics of using invertebrates in research studies. The article references the Crook Lab's ongoing welfare-oriented work on anesthesia and analgesia in cephalopod molluscs."

As cephalopods become more important in neuroscience and other fields, scientists and welfare advocates seek to give the smart animals the same protections as mice and monkeys.

Alumni Ryan Howard (2019), from Dr. Robyn Crooks lab, is in his third year of his PhD in New Zealand and had to halt PhD in order to undergo chemo treatment.
