We are the foundation of the city’s physical growth, representing the workforce that turns blueprints into reality. There are two “academies” under the CityBuild program and they are both administered by OEWD in partnership with City College of San Francisco, various community non-profit organizations, labor unions, and industry employers. CityBuild Academy offers an 18-week pre-apprenticeship and construction skills training program at the City College of San Francisco, Evans Campus. Trainees can earn college credits while learning foundational skills, obtaining industry-recognized trade certifications, and gain knowledge to enter the construction trades as successful new apprentices. In addition to the construction academy, we also offer a training program for those interested in getting into the administrative side of the industry. The Construction Administration and Professional Services Academy (CAPSA) is a semester-long program offered at the City College of San Francisco, Led by community partner Mission Hiring Hall, the program prepares San Francisco residents for entry-level careers as professional construction office administrators. Participants graduate with extensive project management skills including work sequencing, office accounting, project coordination, and other professional skills.
