New UCSF research published in Open Forum Infectious Diseases addresses a key barrier in hepatitis C elimination efforts: confirming cure in populations that face challenges returning for follow-up care.

The study examines whether a cure could be reliably confirmed sooner, particularly in community-based, non-clinical settings serving people who inject drugs. “This study shows that we can simplify hepatitis C care without compromising accuracy,” said Meghan Morris, PhD, MPH, senior author and professor of Epidemiology & Biostatistics.

Four students from our Epidemiology and Translational Science PhD program were recognized for advancing to candidacy at the inaugural UCSF Graduate Division Candidacy Ceremony. Congrats to Tony Capra, PhD, who was appointed to two new roles at UCSF. He will serve as an Associate Director of Discovery AI Strategy and Education at the Bakar Institute and be a Consulting Advisor to the Chief Research Informatics Officer. These appointments reflect Capra's expertise in using computational methods to solve problems in genetics, evolution and biomedicine.
