New “Take A Paws” episode is up! 🎙️

Hosts Ariana Ramirez, Brett Ohene-Adofo, and Guadalupe Alatorre sat down with President Marilyn Flores to talk about the Great California ShakeOut and what’s ahead for San José City College. Our cosmetology and theater faculty stopped by to preview the Día de los Mu***os celebration on Oct. 27, with free face painting, a parade, a folklórico performance and activities in the art gallery.

We also kicked off Student Spotlight, a new segment featuring two student clubs each episode, starting with the theater club and the folklórico club.

And while all that was happening, our cosmetology students were painting a model in full Día de los Mu***os makeup. Stick around to the end for the reveal.

Congratulations to SJCC student Leisar Garcia, winner of a Leigh Weimers Emerging Artists Award from the Rotary Club of San Jose!

Leisar is an artist from Guatemala. Right now he's learning from the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe in San Jose and the Nisenan Miwok in Sacramento, with their permission, so his work can tell their stories and honor their ancestors. For him, art is a way to fight for equality and expose injustice.

Getting here took everything he had.

"Dealing with immigration, adapting to a new culture, learning a new language, and understanding the laws of this country. I knew it wouldn't be easy," he said.

Now he's an award-winning artist with his sights set on museums around the world.

We're proud of you, Leisar.

Everything is political." 🗳️

Santa Clara County Supervisor Betty Duong visited San José City College on Sept. 22 to talk with ethnic studies and political science students about civic life, community, and the power of showing up.

Duong shared how translating for her parents as a child and taking her first ethnic studies class at a community college set her on the path to public service. Her message to students: Be "real nosy," ask all the questions, and get involved beyond voting.

Thank you, Supervisor Duong, for inspiring our Jaguars! Read the full story on the Roar News Center.

Age is just a number — especially when you're setting up a fourth-quarter sack. 🏈

SJCC defensive lineman Justin Buzzard, a 47-year-old South Bay pastor and father of three, got his first career college football snaps Saturday against College of the Redwoods, capping a comeback story that's captured national attention. On a third-down blitz, Buzzard helped spring linebacker Kyler Headley for the sack — then made sure the QB stayed down.

The Jaguars fell 41-21, but Buzzard's moment was the story of the day. Full recap: https://sjccjaguars.com/sports/fball/2026-27/releases/20260830jra3ew. 💜🖤
