📣TOMORROW: STORYTELLERS
-
Music comes alive as a narrative in Storytellers, featuring the SJSU Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band under the direction of Dr. David Vickerman and Dr. Grant Knox. Each piece paints its own vivid tale, from the open landscapes of Howard Cable’s Saskatchewan Overture to the bustling streets of Gershwin’s An American in Paris. Florence Price’s The Old Boatman offers gentle nostalgia, while Gala Flagello’s Bravado brims with bold energy. Lauridsen’s Contre Qui, Rose speaks in quiet poetry, paving the way for the evening’s centerpiece—Lindsay Bronnenkant’s Tarot, a compelling and imaginative exploration of archetypes and fate. Together, these works invite audiences to step into worlds of adventure, memory, and mystery.  Joining us for this concert is the Delta College Symphonic Band, under the direction of M.J. Wamhoff.
-
This event will take place TOMORROW Friday, May 1st at 7:30PM in the SJSU Concert Hall.

The cast of Stuck Elevator 🛗

Stuck Elevator tells the story of a Chinese food deliveryman struggling for freedom from debt, human smugglers, loud-mouthed coworkers, and the temptations of General Tso. Based on the true story of an undocumented immigrant who survived 81 hours in a Bronx elevator, this comic-rap-scrap-metal-opera shows increasingly fantastical attempts to escape being trapped in America.

🎉The SJSU School of Music would like to extend a huge congratulations to the SJSU NAfME chapter for being selected as a 2026 NAfME Collegiate Chapter of Excellence recipient! The students of our NAfME chapter work hard to continue its long standing support for music education in California, and we couldn’t be more proud! Learn more about the chapter and their recognition below!
-
The NAfME Chapter of Excellence recognition highlights chapters that execute successful chapter advocacy, music program, professional development, recruitment strategy, and service projects. The SJSU NAfME chapter applied for the award and was recognized as a program that exemplifies outstanding service. Areas of demonstration may include outreach to their on- and off- campus communities through volunteerism, programs to increase participation in music, and creating affiliations with new organizations.

Service demonstrated by the chapter throughout the year included helping out with SJSU Music events such as Band Day, Honors Wind Ensemble, and Be a Music Major for a Day, and helping to host large CMEA events such as the CMEA Bay Section Conference and CMEA Jazz South festival.

We couldn’t be more proud, bravo!
