Last week, Dean Adrienne Redmond-Sanogo joined Lurie College leaders and educators for the Apple Community Education Initiative (CEI) Professional Learning Summit, a two-day, hands-on experience focused on AI, storytelling, and the future of learning. 🍎✨

Alongside fellow CEI partners serving K–12 learners and communities across the region, participants explored how educational values can guide decisions around AI, examined opportunities and challenges presented by emerging technologies, strengthened storytelling skills, and collaborated on AI Habits of Mind for learners and educators.

“The goal was to explore how to use AI tools within educational practice in ways that align with our values,” shared Associate Dean Ellen Middaugh, who appreciated that the experience began with reflection before moving into practical applications.

Associate Professor Lara Kassab also highlighted “the power of collaborating” and the opportunity to strategically explore and question resources using technology.

Those conversations inspired Lecturer Jila Maleksalehi to develop an AI Playbook reflecting ideas from the experience, including staying curious, thinking first and using AI second, questioning critically, designing for every learner, and leading with integrity.

From hands-on challenges to conversations about AI, values, and storytelling, the summit offered our educators space to learn with one another, imagine new possibilities, and consider how technology can support meaningful and equitable learning.

We’re excited to see where these ideas lead next! 💙💛

🌱 Growth happens in community

Today, our Lurie College staff stepped away from our desks and came together for a staff retreat at Plant Lush for a day of connection, creativity, and community. Our team designed our own succulent terrariums as a reminder that growth flourishes when it’s nurtured with care, collaboration, and community; all while celebrating the people who help our college thrive.

Just like the gardens we planted, our college continues to grow through the dedication, creativity, and compassion of the people who make Lurie College such a special place. Every connection we build strengthens our ability to support one another—and, most importantly, to support the success of our students.

Like every plant needs the right environment to flourish, our students succeed because of the incredible faculty and staff who show up every day with dedication, kindness, and a shared commitment to their success.

Thank you to our entire Lurie College team for everything you do to cultivate a welcoming, supportive community where students can learn, grow, and thrive. 🌿

Thinking about trying AI in your K-12 classroom, but not sure where to begin? This session is for you.

Join Lurie College Adjunct Faculty Dr. Sonal Patel for a free EduMatch session created especially for K12 educators who are new to AI and looking for simple, supportive ways to get started.

Together, you’ll explore how tools like Gemini and NotebookLM can help with everyday teaching tasks, from organizing ideas and reviewing resources to adapting materials with students’ needs in mind.
