Cal Poly San Luis Obispo's Orchesis Dance Company

The concert dance company of Cal Poly, SLO. Auditions for Cal Poly students, faculty, and staff occur during the first week of Fall Quarter.

Founded in 1969 by Dr. Moon Ja Minn Suhr, the Orchesis Dance Company produces one dance concert per year during Winter Quarter. Those chosen, approximately 25-30 intermediate to advanced-level dancers, engage in the creative process with faculty, guest, and student choreographers through Fall Quarter in the Dance Program course, DANC345. It is through this class that dancers also get to take maste

r classes in modern, jazz, ballet, yoga, West African, plus additional dance styles and somatic practices. The mission of Orchesis is to provide an experience that parallels the artistic and technical rigor of that of a dance major in a condensed period of time.

Thank you for a wonderful week of dancing at the beautiful . Our dancers came home with new skills and an even greater appreciation for the diversity of dance. Thank you to all the amazing faculty and dancers for the other attending schools for helping to create such an enriching environment for our dancers.

Last night we celebrated Orchesis 56 at TASTE. We had so much fun these past few months and are so proud of all our wonderful dancers(and directors!) for producing a truly unforgettable show. Each year our company members amaze us with their talents and we are so proud of this group of dancers. Congratulations all!🌟
