According to the Pew Research Center, 38 percent of Americans live within five miles of a data center – and there are more than 1,500 additional data centers currently in the works. The second Real Estate Day, Oct. 28 (Chumash Auditorium, noon to five, followed by a social hour) will include discussions on data center trends, financing, infrastructure needs, controversies and more. Over a dozen speakers will offer their expertise on this hot topic, which has been prominent in the news and debated by politicians. Read more about the event and how to get tickets here:

College Appreciation Night will feature the Orfalea College of Business during the Mustangs football game against Weber State Saturday. During the game, a business student will be recognized on the field, and Dean Fleming will offer the ceremonial coin toss. There will also be barbecue and, of course, great football action with the 3-2 Mustangs

This is also Mustang Family Weekend, so join us for live music, w**e, food and games on O’Neill Green before the game, starting at 2:30.

As an undergraduate biology student at Georgetown University, Lily Steinberg spent lots of time in a lab with mice and researched Indochinese tigers for “National Geographic.” But after graduation, she decided to shift focus and pursue a graduate degree in business analytics at Cal Poly. She’s one of several students from non-business programs who recognized the advantage of pursuing an advanced degree in business. Read more about three of them here:

Jason Feinsmith will share mind-bending insights, along with with inside stories of what’s really going on with AI in the real world of business. Drawing from his own career and insights from his work in AI, he’ll also share relevant, unique and practical advice about how to prepare for and succeed professionally after graduating from Cal Poly in the age of AI, including why you won’t be replaced by AI (but what you must do to avoid that).

25 FOR 25: LOW INCOME TAXPAYER CLINIC

(This series looks at 25 highlights from the past 25 years, since the college was named after Paul Orfalea's parents.)

In 2010, the Orfalea College of Business established its Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC), giving accounting students the chance to work on real federal tax controversies while helping low-income members of the community.

Over its first decade, hundreds of students took part, and the clinic helped thousands of people. It's a strong example of Learn by Doing, with students representing real clients on real cases.

The clinic began in the same year as the Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, and both show how the college's hands-on approach reaches well beyond the classroom.
