To our students tonight: day one is behind you.
However it felt in there, it is not a prediction. Everyone walks out of day one thinking the same thing.
Rest. Tomorrow is the last one.

If you are an alum who has been in that room: leave a note below. They will read it when they come up for air Wednesday night.

Most people who want to practice law in San Luis Obispo County assume they have to leave to get the degree. They do not.

Libby Downey enrolled in law school at 86. She is 88 now, two years into her Masters in Legal Studies at our Monterey campus. A retired nurse and former city council member, she spent 60 years in public service before she started.

San Luis Obispo College of Law is California accredited and holds classes in the evening, so students keep working while they earn the degree.

SLO county needs lawyers who are from here and stay here.
Whatever you were told about the timeline, Libby is evidence it was wrong.

Her story on KSBW: https://www.ksbw.com/article/monterey-woman-88-dream-attending-law-school/73275619

Libby Downey, an 88-year-old retired nurse and public servant, is two years into her law degree at Monterey College of Law, showing it’s never too late to pursue a dream.
