Texas State University researchers are paving the way for smarter highway maintenance across Texas’ 703,000 lane miles of highways. With continued Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) funding, a cross-disciplinary team including ISoE Civil Engineering faculty members Feng Wang, Ph.D., associate professor Yongsheng Bai, Ph.D., assistant professor of instruction Xiaohua Luo, Ph.D, and former postdoctoral scholar Haitao Gong, Ph.D. And through the combined efforts of both civil engineering and computer science students utilizing specialized computer vision tools helped to refine pavement defect detection and improve accuracy.

“The combination of academic focus, equipment investment, and agency partnership helped lay the foundation for the research,” said Wang.

We are immensely proud of you all!
