Dr. Xi Pan’s study examined firefighters’ exposure to forever chemicals and the possible connection to cognitive decline, dementia risk, and advancing preventative healthcare.

The Sociology Department at Texas State University just completed its first Study in America course to Puerto Rico entitled Isla del Encanto: Society, Culture, and Environment in Puerto Rico. In this course led by José R. Pérez Reisler and Claude Bonnazo Romaguera students were able to learn more about Puerto Rico’s culture and national identity and how the island’s unique past shapes current urban, rural and coastal initiatives. If you are interested in taking part in this amazing course, applications for the 2026-27 academic year will open by September 1st.

Dr. Joseph A. Kotarba was selected to present the George Herbert Mead lecture at the 2026 annual convention of the National Communication Association (NCA). The 2026 NCA Convention is to be held at New Orleans, LA, November 19-22.
