The CSM Fire Technology Program is hosting a Fire Technology Information Night on March 11th from 6:30–8:00 PM at , in Building 10.

During the session, we will cover:

• How to begin the Fire Technology pathway at CSM
• Recommended courses and sequencing
• EMT requirements
• The Fire Academy process
• Career opportunities in the fire service

Students will also have the opportunity to connect directly with current EMT students, academy students, local fire department cadets, explorers, volunteers, firefighters and chiefs from San Mateo County who will be in attendance to share their experiences and answer questions about entering the profession. 🍕will be provided.

The evening will conclude with an Open House at the CSM Fire Academy firehouse, where students can tour the facility, see the equipment, and meet faculty and regional fire service representatives.

This past Sunday, November 23, several students from CSM’s Fire Technology program volunteered at the 5K walk/run in memory of Quinn White, who passed away due to epilepsy while completing his senior year at Hillsdale High School. Quinn was a dedicated student athlete and who was enrolled in the Redwood City Fire explorer program And was taking classes at CSM to become a firefighter. Now in its second year, this annual event raises money for scholarships for students attending college.

Incredible photos from CSM / SMCo Academy #5’s Fire Control 3 course last week, courtesy of , who spent the day on Thursday documenting our training. Hosting this Fire Control 3 class is no small feat and we are immensely grateful to .firedistrict for hosting the course, and to the entire county Central Zone Burn Cadre, for making it all possible. In attendance, supporting our course and ensuring our recruits’ success, was , .firedistrict, , , , and more. Fire Control 3 is unlike most all other academy training in that it offers recruits an opportunity to train in actual fire conditions. CSM / SMCo Academy #5 had a great day today learning about Fire Prevention from personnel from , , and . CSM’s Fire Academy combines “pre-service” community college recruits alongside recruits from departments throughout San Mateo county. This endeavor is a collaborative effort and we appreciate the ongoing support from our agency partners throughout the county.

Our Emergency Medical Technician program recently hosted a number of students from a College of San Mateo business marketing course. The group has been tasked with learning more about our Fire & EMS programs, and looking for opportunities to help strengthen our digital presence. CSM / SMCo recruits completed their Firefighter Survival state course earlier this week at ’ Station 37 in Millbrae. This crucial course helps to reduce firefighter injuries and fatalities, giving students firefighter survival terminology, developing a survival attitude, increasing situational awareness, and helping students to become more self-reliant in an emergency.
