The planetarium isn't just a place to learn about outer space, but it can also help us learn about inner space! Our Seminole State College of Florida Emergency Medical Services students came out to explore the human body in a way they can't do in a traditional classroom setting. This immersive learning experience will help them obtain the skills they need to prepare for a future in caring for the members of our community.

The skies cleared up just in time for last night's deep partial lunar eclipse. About 40 Seminole State College of Florida students dropped by to hang out with us and see the eclipse through many of our telescopes. We even got to see Saturn! Did you see the eclipse last night? Share some photos if you did.

This week we welcomed back faculty as they prepare for the start of the fall semester next week. We presented a program about our immersive learning experiences inside the planetarium for courses here at the college. Faculty got to experience inside Independence Hall and learn about the history of the founding of our nation from history and political science professors. The planetarium will be reopening soon so be sure to check out our website for upcoming shows and events this fall.

Want to experience what it was like during the August 12 total solar eclipse? Check out the video created by Planetarium Director Derek Demeter during his time in Mallorca Spain. This is a 360 video so be sure to look around and explore. You can even see the planet Venus! The most interesting detail of the video is seeing the shadow band caused by the Moon eclipsing the Sun.

Planetarium director Derek Demeter spent the week out in Mallorca Spain leading a tour for 40 people to see the eclipse. Here are some of his favorite photos taken from the event. Derek also held astronomy programs each night for the tour group, sharing the night sky with his smart telescope. Which photo do you enjoy the most? Let us know!
