Congratulations to Melinda Perez! Melinda had an outstanding year as a trumpet student last year. She is the recipient of the Hoofman-Fowler Scholarship. Mrs. Laura Fowler and Mr. Robert Hoofman always want to make the most impact possible on the student experience, so the College delivered the scholarship in the form of a trumpet, chosen for her by Professor John Almeida. The department is grateful to Mrs. Fowler and Mr. Hoofman, and so proud of Melinda. Seminole State College of Florida

Dressed as the artist Frida Kahlo, Melanie Estudillo presents her research on the artist in Professor Tammy Lawless' ARH1000 Art Appreciation course. The project converts traditional research into an accessible public presentation, cultivating skills in visual literacy and public speaking. Students choose their research interest, develop questions to guide their research, and deliver an evidence-based presentation using multimedia design. It is always fun when students take creative liberty in their presentations and connect with the material. A shared cultural heritage with the artist guided Estudillo in her research and presentation. Seminole State College of Florida

ARTISTS NEEDED!

The Seminole Cultural Arts Council and the Museum of Seminole County History invite artists to submit work for "Gather to Celebrate," a special exhibition exploring the ways people come together to commemorate life's meaningful moments.

From weddings and birthdays to festivals, parades, reunions, holidays, graduations, memorials, and community traditions, celebrations help us preserve memories, honor milestones, and strengthen our connections to one another. We're seeking artwork that captures the joy, reflection, ceremony, and shared experiences that make these moments memorable.

Whether your work depicts a large public gathering or an intimate personal celebration, we encourage artists to explore the themes of remembrance, commemoration, tradition, and the enduring human desire to gather together.

Artists working in a variety of media are encouraged to apply, including but not limited to watercolor, acrylic, oil painting, mixed media, pen and ink, pencil, charcoal, chalk, colored pencil, Prismacolor, and markers. A limited number of spaces are also available for three-dimensional works and sculpture.

Important Dates:

• Submission Deadline: June 26, 2026
• Final Artwork Selection: On or Before June 30, 2026
• Artwork Delivery and Installation: July 9, 2026
• Exhibition Dates: July 11 through August 1, 2026
