When the ground shakes, knowing what to do makes all the difference!

Yesterday, Rancho Santiago Community College District joined millions of people participating in the Great ShakeOut, conducting earthquake preparedness drills at Santa Ana College, Santiago Canyon College, our Continuing Education centers and the District Office.

Students and employees practiced three essential actions to take during an earthquake: DROP. COVER. HOLD ON.

These drills reinforce our commitment to maintaining safe learning and working environments throughout the District. Earthquakes can happen without warning, and preparedness doesn't end when the drill is over.

It All Begins Here.

A beautiful new welcome at Santiago Canyon College!

Today, Rancho Santiago Community College District joined SCC students, employees, community leaders, and partners to celebrate the ribbon-cutting and reopening of the college’s renovated front entrance.

With a beautiful new campus sign, water feature, and improved accessibility, the entrance offers a welcoming first impression for everyone who visits SCC.

But this project is about more than appearances. It reflects our commitment to ensuring our campuses remain accessible, inviting, and ready to serve current and future generations of students.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this project to life!

Four consecutive years of enrollment growth. RSCCD continues to expand access to higher education across our communities.
In 2025-26, the District generated 33,072 credit and noncredit FTES, a 6.62% increase over the previous year and approximately 26% growth since 2021-22.

And more students are being served. Combined credit and noncredit headcount has grown from 82,776 to 115,586 over the past four years, while dual enrollment has nearly doubled from 4,394 to 8,062 students.

Growth is important to our fiscal health, but the most important number is the number of students we are serving.

Hear from California leaders

Dr. Sonya Christian, Chancellor of the California Community Colleges, will open the Summit with a look at what Vision 2030 asks of colleges and why working adults are at the center of this work.

She will then lead a conversation with presidents from three of California’s largest noncredit institutions about what it takes to make noncredit central to workforce strategy:

Dr. Tina King — President, San Diego College of Continuing Education
Dr. Annebelle Nery — President, Santa Ana College
Valentina Purtell — President, North Orange Continuing Education
Dr. Tara Lynn Gray, former Director of the California Office of the Small Business Advocate, will follow with a look at the future of California’s workforce.

This is an opportunity to collaborate, learn, and help shape the future of noncredit education in California.

The Vision 2030 Noncredit Summit is just two weeks away. Noncredit leaders from across California will gather in Newport Beach from October 7 to 9, and we saved one of our most exciting sessions for Friday.

Meet the AI Community Corps. These young professionals from Merge Opportunities spent 12 weeks building AI tools for nonprofits in Long Beach. Now they're sharing that work with us.

*Anthony Ramirez, an AI developer, built a donor app with an AI assistant and helped create an Outlook tool that catches scam emails

*Jonathan Ramirez, a computer science and engineering graduate, brings a love of hard problems to code development and AI

*Wesley D. Easter used AI to help a Long Beach nonprofit organize its outreach as he moves from cybersecurity into marketing

*Caleb Magsombol, a marketing graduate, is building skills in AI tools, web development, and social media strategy

*Mikela Wood-Kaauwai, a photographer and cinematographer, started her own business at 19 and is now bringing her creativity to technology

*Maleek Silvers, a writer and poet, is launching a company that helps businesses adopt new technology

They came to this work with their own ideas and their own drive. Come hear how they think about AI and what they want educators to know.

Facilitated by Erin Earlywine, Executive Director of Merge Opportunities.

Welcome, Student Trustee Stephen Reid!

Reid was sworn in Monday as the newest member of the RSCCD Board of Trustees, representing students from both Santa Ana College and Santiago Canyon College.

An SCC business and economics student with experience in student government, Reid says he plans to spend time on both campuses, listen directly to students and make sure their voices are part of District-level conversations.

“My goal is to listen, make sure students at both SAC and SCC are heard and advocate for opportunities that help them succeed.”

Today, Rancho Santiago Community College District recognizes Constitution Day, commemorating the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787.

More than two centuries later, the words “We the People” remind us that democracy depends on an informed and engaged public.

At RSCCD, we believe education plays an important role in helping students understand their rights, responsibilities, and ability to participate in our democracy.

Happy Constitution Day.
