Where have you found community at SCU? ❤️🤍

For many graduate students, building connections outside the classroom can be one of the most meaningful parts of the experience. That's what inspired Counseling Psychology student Isabella Hernandez '27 to help create SCU's first Graduate Mixer in partnership with the Office for Multicultural Learning.

The event brought together graduate students from different programs to meet new friends, share experiences, and build community.

As Isabella shared, "We don't need to be siloed...we can come together and create memories just like this."

What if what we’ve learned about resilience is wrong? 🤔

Cristina Leal, M.A. in Counseling Psychology ’24, reflects on what we often get wrong about resilience, and shares insights on belonging, community, and why support matters more than we think.

“Resilience can be the opportunity to thrive, but it isn’t something you either have or don’t have... Resilience is really bigger than the individual,” she says.

Many of us believe resilience means being strong, independent, and figuring everything out on our own. But what if we’re not really meant to exist on our own?

As Mental Health Awareness Month and the academic year comes to a close, this is your reminder that leaning on your community doesn’t make you weaker, it makes you stronger. 💪

Some days, the hardest thing isn’t the assignment, the deadline, or the uncertainty. It’s also the way we speak to ourselves through it all. 💆‍♀️

This Mental Health Awareness Month, this year’s theme “More Good Days, Together” has us reflecting on just how special the ECP community truly is. 💚

Whether we’re gathering at events, learning together in class, or celebrating milestones big and small, it’s these shared moments and connections that make our days brighter.

We’re grateful to be part of a community that continues to support, uplift, and inspire one another every day.

It's Mental Health Awareness Month 💚 In honor of this year’s theme, “More Good Days, Together,” we invited two of our Counseling Psychology students to share what a “good day” means to them!

A good day doesn’t have to be perfect. Sometimes, it’s the small moments of joy, connection, and self-care that make the biggest difference. What feels meaningful and restorative looks different for everyone — and that’s what makes it so special.

Keep an eye out for more “good day” moments coming soon ✨

As Teacher Appreciation Week comes to a close, we’re celebrating the educators who inspire, support, and uplift students every single day — and the future teachers preparing to follow in their footsteps. ❤️

For Sergio Castillo '26, some of the best moments in education come through collaboration with colleagues and seeing the positive impact that shared work can have on students and families. And of course, his students keep him humble too, especially when they remind him that being born in the 90s apparently makes him “old.” 😂

Thank you to all our teachers for the compassion, dedication, and care they bring to their communities each day!

Gia Quyen Long was originally inspired to become a teacher because he wanted to make a meaningful impact in his community. Today, that passion continues through his dedication to supporting diverse learners and fostering a sense of belonging in the classroom for every student. ❤️ 📖

During this Teacher Appreciation Week, hear from the Online Master of Arts in Teaching student as he shares how he has grown as an educator and the kind of success he hopes to help his students achieve. ✨
