We're excited to announce Pamela Melroy as the keynote speaker for our 2026 Commencement ceremonies.

A retired U.S. Air Force officer, NASA astronaut, and former NASA Deputy Administrator, Melroy has led an extraordinary career defined by service, courage, and exploration at the highest levels.

Her journey—from piloting space shuttle missions to shaping the future of space policy—embodies the very spirit of leadership and purpose we strive to cultivate in our students.

In 1976, Jimmy Carter beat out Gerald Ford as president.

Gas was about sixty cents per gallon.

And the RAND School—then, the RAND Graduate Institute—ushered in its sixth student cohort.

"The curriculum endeavors to develop the student's ability to apply and adapt academic theories and tools," reads the 1976 Student Bulletin, "in order to deal with real-world policy problems within the often painfully real constraints of budgets, time, organizational outlook, and politics."

Fifty years later, that commitment still drives us: help turn analysis into action and ideas into impact.
