On Thursday, November 5, from 3:30–5pm, our Veterans Group will visit Time for You Playcare to speak with afterschool students about their military experiences, time in service, and how those experiences have shaped who they are today.

We are looking for veterans who would enjoy sharing their experiences and connecting with the next generation. As the students will include children as young as 5, volunteers should be comfortable speaking with young children and sharing stories in a calm, patient, and approachable manner. Stories and discussion topics should be appropriate for a mixed-age audience.

🇺🇸🚴 TOUR DE VALOR: 200+ MILES. ONE MILLION VOICES. ONE POWERFUL MESSAGE.

From Albany to Long Island, a 200+ mile journey across New York will soon carry a message of peer support, connection, holistic wellness and HOPE.

On October 23–24, the Dwyer Coalition for Military Veterans and Families will launch the inaugural “Tour de Valor: One Million Voices,” a bicycle journey from the Albany County Veterans Service Bureau to the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Memorial in Rocky Point.

The New York State Department of Veterans' Services is proud to support this incredible initiative and help amplify an important message: Caring for our physical, mental and emotional well-being matters. Asking for and accepting support is a sign of strength. And no one should have to navigate life’s challenges alone.

🚴 Two Veterans will make the ride together: Gavin T. Walters Sr., MSW, U.S. Air Force Veteran and Executive Director of the Dwyer Coalition for Military Veterans & Families, and Todd Dorris, Navy and Army Veteran and Program Manager of the Putnam County Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Project.

And YOU can become part of their journey.

🖊️ At stops along the route, community members will be invited to write the name of a family member, friend or someone important to them on the Tour de Valor banners. Those names will then travel with the riders throughout the 200+ mile journey.

Every name represents a story. Every story becomes part of One Million Voices.

Throughout the journey, fire departments, first responders, law enforcement and community partners will help support the riders and demonstrate the network of people and organizations standing with our military-connected community. We also thank the Adaptive Sports Foundation for providing a recumbent bicycle for the ride.

At its heart, Tour de Valor is a reminder of the strength found through community, connection and camaraderie — and that it is OK to say, “I need support, and I cannot do this alone.”

We hope communities across the route will come out, meet the riders, add a name to the banner and become part of One Million Voices. 🇺🇸

Honor our veterans, make connections and hear from an inspiring military leader at the annual VBC Veterans Breakfast on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, from 8-9:15 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Saratoga Springs.

The event is $45 per person and advance registration is required. This annual event supports scholarship, career development, and business training programs for veterans, and is hosted by the Veterans Business Council of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce.

This year’s keynote speaker is Garry R. White, Rear Admiral (Ret.) USN. Admiral White is a TOPGUN graduate and nuclear-qualified carrier commander whose distinguished career includes serving as Commanding Officer of the USS Arctic and the USS George Washington. Admiral White will share leadership insights from his exceptional career of service.
