Throughout National Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, the New York State Department of Veterans' Services continues joining partners and communities across New York and the nation in raising awareness, breaking down stigma and reminding All Who Served that help, hope and support are available.

Today is the kickoff of ! This week, we will be highlighting upcoming events, ways to explore Saratoga NHP, and who makes it all possible.

Our celebration of our park story does not end with National Park Week. We have many exciting and educational events coming up in September! We will be hosting living history encampments, guiding tours, and delivering ranger programs.

September Events:
🗺️Saratoga Battlefield Guide Tour on September 5 at 9 a.m.
🚗History Caravan Battlefield Tours on September 12 and 26 at 9:30 a.m.
🌠 Night Sky Over the Neilson Farm Ranger Program on September 12 at 8:15 p.m. (Open House from 6 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.)
⛺ September Encampment on September 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and September 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
🚶‍♂️‍➡️Freeman's Farm Walking Tour on September 19 at 2 p.m.
🪦Stories in Stone: the "Tablets" of Saratoga Battlefield on September 26 at 1 p.m.

🇺🇸 JOIN US FOR A SPECIAL CONVERSATION ON SEPT. 9: HAIR LOSS: NOW WHAT? UNDERSTANDING YOUR OPTIONS & FINDING SUPPORT

Hair loss can affect confidence, quality of life and overall well-being — and both men and women in the Military and Veteran community may face questions about causes, treatment options, hair replacement and available benefits.

Join the New York State Department of Veterans' Services on September 9 for a special DVS Chat & Chew featuring Certified Hair Loss Specialist Bianca Lyder, owner and founder of New Horizons Hair by Bianca, with more than 30 years of experience helping people experiencing hair thinning and hair loss.

The conversation will cover causes of hair loss, solutions for men and women, wigs and men’s hair units, Veterans’ benefits and eligibility, costs, quality of life and more.

The event will be moderated by Dr. Lessie Branch, DVS Special Assistant for Community Engagement and U.S. Navy Veteran.

🇺🇸 VETERAN EQUINE THERAPY RETREAT | SEPTEMBER 25–27 🇺🇸

Homeward Bound Adirondacks invites veterans to join us for a three-day retreat at 1841 Calvary Ranch in Ravenna, New York.

This weekend is about getting away from the noise, spending time outdoors, connecting with fellow veterans, and enjoying the kind of conversations that happen naturally around a campfire.

Throughout the weekend, participants will have opportunities to take part in outdoor activities, mindfulness and stretching, horseback riding and grooming, nature walks, reflection, and plenty of time for fellowship.

🇺🇸🥕🥬🍅 FRESHCONNECT CHECKS FOR VETERANS — FOREST HILLS!

Veterans, Service Members and Military Families in Queens: stop by the Forest Hills Greenmarket on Sunday, August 30, and connect with New York State Department of Veterans' Services Coordinator for Women Who Served and U.S. Army Veteran Ozias “Rosiey” Batista.

Rosiey will be onsite from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to share information about benefits and services you may have earned and to distribute FreshConnect Checks while supplies are available.

FreshConnect Checks help eligible Veterans, Service Members and their immediate Family Members purchase fresh, healthy foods at participating farmers’ markets and farm stands across New York State.

Veterans are encouraged to file your official military discharge papers (DD-214) in the Saratoga County Clerk's Office at 40 McMaster St. You keep the original, but you and your immediate family members will be able access this sealed document at any time to get a free certified copy. You or your family members may need your DD-214 to access certain veterans benefits in the future.

After filing your DD-214, you can get a F.A.V.O.R. card that provides discounts at lots of area businesses.
