Hello Cabaret Troupe,
For those who do not know me, my name is Anna Krechevsky. I am a rising junior and the current President of Cabaret Troupe at Skidmore. I am writing to you all today to give you a rather large update:
Cabaret Troupe as you all know it, has been disbanded. A new club is taking it’s place. The new club, TheatreBreds will still include musical theatre, but will also include One Act Plays and short plays in order to provide more opportunity for the students at Skidmore. This decision to re-evaluate did not come lightly.
Now to tell you how the decision was reached. I have loved Cabaret Troupe from the moment I first worked with them as a performer. Upon coming to Skidmore, this club was one of the many things I looked forward to. I made such amazing friends during the past two years with Cabaret Troupe, first as a performer and on the Eboard.
This past fall, Sarah Hilley, (2019 President) Hanna Nyberg (2019 Treasurer) and I (Anna Krechevsky, 2019 Secretary) talked about the future of the club. At the time, I was not planning to take it over. Cabaret Troupe was struggling, and had been for a while. Our events were not getting the draw that we wanted, and the reputation of the club was not what it used to be. The Eboard had turned into just the 3 of us. With fewer and fewer members, we knew things had to change.
At first, the idea was to disband the club entirely, and hope that one day someone would ask why there was no musical theatre and recreate a version of the club. But it was decided that we wanted to try once more to keep it going, and I took over the position of President from Sarah. With the help of Sarah and the new and current board members before and during the pandemic, we began the task of changing the clubs form.
We started with the name, which took a lot of careful consideration, but decided upon TheatreBreds. Along with the name change, we edited and broadened the charter to include One Act plays in addition to one musical a year. We edited the Eboard positions and plan to meet with SGA when the time comes to finalize our new club. We hope to provide opportunities for students across campus in whatever area of theatre they have interest in.
Let it be known, that this is not an official announcement. I wanted to let you all know, as members of the club, our plan going forward. We plan to launch the club in the Spring semester, once the pandemic is (hopefully) over.
I know that this is sad news for many of you, but I hope that you can also feel the excitement of starting fresh. The truth is, I don’t know the future of the club. I have faith that we will succeed, leaving a stronger legacy to future members. I know that I, and the rest of my board are going to try our damndest to see this new club to its fruition.
To all past members I leave this page. May you share your memories and experiences here for years to come. I hope that we will be able to have a reunion of some sort one day. I think that would be nice 😊
Regards,
Anna Krechevsky
President of Skidmore TheatreBreds
