Please help us welcome Kevin Kramer to the Viking Family as the new Head Coach of the Women’s Volleyball and Beach Volleyball programs.

For 12 years, Kevin led the Indoor and Beach Volleyball programs at Gavilan College as a tenured Kinesiology instructor. Indoors, he led Gavilan to 6 Coast Conference championships, 10 consecutive playoff appearances, and two trips to the state tournament. In 2018, Kevin was selected as the Northern California Community College Volleyball Coach of the Year and was recognized as the 2018 AVCA Two-Year College Southwest Coach of the Year.

As the President of the 3C2A Volleyball coaches association, Kevin was instrumental in bringing Beach Volleyball to the state as a sanctioned sport. His 2018 beach team qualified to play in the state’s final four tournament.

West Valley College Athletics is proud to announce our 2026 Coach of the Year, and back-to-back recipient of this honor, Vicky Piatt, Head Coach of Viking Softball!

Over the past two seasons, Coach Piatt has led the Vikings to an impressive 80 wins while continuing to build one of the premier softball programs in California. Her dedication to the development of her student-athletes has helped countless players earn opportunities to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year institutions.

For more than two decades, Coach Piatt has made a lasting impact on the softball community through her leadership, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to the success of her players both on and off the field.

Coach Piatt’s passion for the game and for the young women she coaches exemplifies what it means to be a transformational leader.

West Valley College Athletics is proud to announce our 2026 Female Student-Athlete of the Year, Raylene Cruz of Morgan Hill, California!

Raylene was a cornerstone of Viking Softball and one of the program’s most consistent leaders. Over 84 career games, she recorded 88 hits, 60 runs scored, and 60 RBIs while posting an outstanding .991 career fielding percentage. Earning herself First Team Coast Conference and All-North honors this season!

A true leader both on and off the field, Raylene set the standard through her work ethic, dedication, and commitment to excellence. Her impact extended beyond softball, as she also excelled in the classroom and represented West Valley College with pride.

Raylene is currently in the process of narrowing down her options as she prepares to continue her athletic and academic career at the next level.

Congratulations, Raylene, on this well-deserved honor. We are incredibly proud of you and look forward to seeing all that you accomplish in the future!

West Valley College Athletics is proud to announce our 2026 Male Student-Athlete of the Year, David Estrada of San Jose, California!

David leaves behind one of the most impressive careers in Viking Baseball history. Over his time at West Valley, he compiled 158 hits, 128 runs scored, and 122 RBIs while earning numerous postseason honors, highlighted by being named the 2026 Coast-South MVP.

David’s success extended far beyond the baseball field. He excelled in the classroom and embodied what it means to be a true student-athlete.

David will continue both his academic and athletic journey at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.

Congratulations, David, on this well-deserved honor. We are incredibly proud of you and can’t wait to see all that you accomplish in the future!
