Tiger’s Roar Takes on Washington, D.C.! Members of the Savannah State University Tiger’s Roar Student News Team recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to attend the Indaba Student Press Leadership & Innovation Conference and the 2026 Democracy Summit at Howard University, October 5–6.

Representing Savannah State were student journalists Daton Vaughn, Joshua Ryans, Keira Harris, Aja Dolson, and Grace Eliose Thomas, accompanied by Tiger’s Roar Advisor Kareem McMichael.

Hosted by Howard University's Center for Journalism & Democracy, the Democracy Summit brought together journalists, newsroom leaders, and media professionals for important conversations about press freedom, election coverage, newsroom preparedness, and the future of journalism.

Our student journalists had the opportunity to learn from industry leaders, connect with fellow HBCU journalists, and gain valuable insight into the challenges and responsibilities facing today's newsrooms.

We are proud of our students for representing Savannah State University on a national stage and continuing to develop the skills needed to become the next generation of journalists and media leaders!

The future of journalism is in good hands!
