Mark your calendar for Thursday, November 4, 2026, and join us at Fletcher Technical Community College for the Bayou Region Continuing Education Symposium for Engineers.

This full-day professional development event will feature valuable continuing education opportunities, industry insights, and networking with fellow engineering professionals from across the region. The symposium will be held in Fletcher's Workforce and Nursing Building from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with breakfast and lunch included.

Remember when we were the school on St. Charles Street?

Before we were Fletcher Technical Community College, we were South Louisiana Trade School.

When classes opened in 1951, this building on St. Charles Street in Houma became home to students learning trades that helped build the workforce of South Louisiana. Programs like auto mechanics, drafting, carpentry, industrial engine mechanics, and office occupations prepared students for careers that kept our communities moving forward.

The need was immediate. In our very first year, 883 students enrolled.

Over the decades, the institution evolved from a trade school to a technical college and eventually to the comprehensive community college we know today. While our campuses, programs, and name have changed, our mission remains the same: helping students build better futures through education and workforce training.

As we celebrate 75 Years of Changing Lives, we're proud to honor the generations of students, faculty, staff, and community partners who helped shape Fletcher into what it is today.

So much has happened since this photo was taken.

What was once a construction site is now the heart of Fletcher's Schriever Campus, serving thousands of students each year as they pursue education, workforce training, and new opportunities.

Since this building opened, Fletcher has continued to grow and evolve. Two additional buildings have been constructed on the Schriever Campus, another is currently under development, new academic and workforce programs have been launched, and thousands of students have earned credentials that have strengthened our region's workforce and transformed lives.

As we celebrate 75 Years of Changing Lives, we're taking a look back at the people, places, and milestones that helped shape Fletcher's story.

The finish line is rarely reached in a single step. It is the result of choosing to continue, even when the path becomes challenging, uncertain, or longer than expected.

This spring, 250 students earned associate degrees as part of Fletcher's graduating class. Their achievements serve as a reminder that perseverance, commitment, and hard work can turn goals into accomplishments.
