All teams presented a Showcase Display of the products and systems they have created to improve student behavior and achievement at their school. South Mountain and Alhambra High Schools came together to plan the roll out of their Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system with the help of BERT. Teams finalized plans for this school-wide system that aims to decrease disruptive behaviors, improve achievement, and increase school safety. We look forward to seeing these outcomes!

Are your discipline practices Culturally Responsive? That was the question that all 12 Casa Grande Elementary Schools addressed in a full day BERT workshop on thursday. This was the fourth in a series of Behavior Management workshops conducted with school district teams to raise student achievement and performance.

Schools that implement PBIS have:
- reduced office referrals and suspensions
- increased academic achievement
- reduced administrator time dealing with behavior problems
- increased time students are in instructional environments
- reduced teacher burnout
- worked in high and low SES schools
- reduced disproportionate discipline for minority students

In 2010 there was 14,325 schools implementing PBIS

BERT is currently at the 2011 APBS Conference in Denver Colorado. The focus is on Moving PBS Forward: Quality, Equity and Efficiency.
The Keynote was Dr. Rob Horner, his presentation was engaging, informative and inspiring. There are many great sessions focusing on PBIS implementation school-wide, Tier 2/3, early childhood, with Families, juvenile justice system and mental health. Great Conference!

All 12 Casa Grande Elementary Schools attended the third in a four-part series of workshops designed to improve their skills in supporting student with behavior problems. In addition to these workshops, BERT also provides coaching to each school throughout the year to follow-up on training and support teachers as they implement new skills.
