🌎💙 Day 5 — Our Final Day in El Salvador 🇸🇻🩺
Our final day of the Arkansas State University Beebe Nursing Learning Abroad experience took our students to the beautiful city of Ataco, where they immersed themselves in the sights, sounds, flavors, and culture of El Salvador.
Students explored the local street market, experienced traditional foods, visited with local residents, and had the opportunity to see everyday life through a different cultural lens. From the colorful streets and local artisans to the conversations and connections made along the way, our students experienced so much more than a destination. They experienced people, culture, and community. ❤️
As we look back on these five incredible days, it is hard to put into words just how much our students have experienced. They toured a university and nursing facilities, learned about another country’s healthcare system, compared nursing education and classroom experiences, visited a nursing home, explored historical and cultural sites, shared meals, made new connections, and stepped outside of everything familiar to see the world from a different perspective.
But perhaps the greatest lesson of all cannot be found in a classroom or a textbook. It is the lesson of understanding. Learning that healthcare may look different in another country, but compassion is universal. That the needs of patients may vary, but the importance of caring for others never changes. And that sometimes stepping outside of our own world allows us to return home with a greater appreciation for the people we serve.
We hope this experience stays with our students long after they leave El Salvador. We hope the people they met, the stories they heard, the places they experienced, and the lessons they learned become part of who they are. Not only as nurses, but as servants to their profession and to the people entrusted to their care. 🩺❤️ This trip may have lasted only five days, but its impact can last a lifetime.
🇸🇻 Thank you, El Salvador and UNICAES for welcoming our students, sharing your culture, and becoming part of their nursing journey.
And to our Arkansas State University Beebe nursing students, take what you have learned, carry it with you, and let it shape the nurse and the person you become. 🌎💙
