INIHKD International Network of Indigenous Health Knowledge & Development The conference will be held from 28 April to 2 May 2025 in Tamaya, Albuquerque, New Mexico. A pre-conference on 27 April 2025 will be dedicated to students.

The International Network for Indigenous Health Knowledge and Development (INIHKD) is an international shared waters alliance advancing health, healing, and knowledge sovereignty across nations. INIHKD is an international committee of esteemed Indigenous health and science scholars from New Zealand, the United States, Canada, Hawai'i, and Australia who seek to provide a vital platform to address critical issues impacting Indigenous Communities across the globe. INIHKD and the University of Washington Indigenous Wellness Research Institute (IWRI) are hosting the 'Reclaiming Indigenous Ecologies of Love' [RIEL] Conference, which will focus on Health, Well-Being, Medicines, Environment, and Creative Practice. www.inihkd.com

We are honored to welcome an extraordinary lineup of distinguished keynote speakers to Rarotonga, Cook Islands, for INIHKD 2026: Reclaiming Indigenous Ecologies of Love for Future Generations (RIEL FFG).

Together, their voices will contribute to a global gathering grounded in Indigenous knowledges, ancestral responsibilities, and care for future generations to create a vibrant space to engage in strengths‑based, Indigenous led dialogue.

Now introducing INIHKD 2026 Keynote Speaker, Dr. Jackie Huggins.

Dr. Jackie Huggins AM FAHA, a member of the Bidjara and Birri Gubba Juru peoples, is currently leading the work for Treaty/Treaties in Queensland. In popular demand as a speaker on Aboriginal issues, she is a well-known historian and author, with articles published widely in Australia and internationally. Her acclaimed biography of her mother, Auntie Rita, was published in 1994 and in 2022 her biography of her father, Jack of Hearts: QX11594 was published.

She was the former Co-Chair National Congress of Australia’s First Peoples, former member of the National Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation, Co-Chair Reconciliation Australia, the State Library Board of Queensland and the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies. She was Co-Commissioner for Queensland for the Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from Their Families, and for several years was a Judge of the annual David Unaipon Award.

Now introducing INIHKD 2026 Creative Keynotes, Regan Balzer and Horomona Horo.

Regan Balzer:
Regan Balzer (Ngāti Ranginui, Te Arawa, Raukawa, Apakura) is a practicing artist whose works are motivated by celebrating the rich connections to land, people and culture. Regan has developed a colourfully expressive style of painting. Through performance painting-at speed- Regan shares journeys of process, life cycles, emotion, and visual narratives. Regan has had an expansive career in the arts, exhibiting extensively (in group and solo shows) throughout New Zealand as well as internationally (including Italy, America, Australia & Tahiti). Regan’s recent works continue to explore and push the parameters of paint in different mediums, including commissions, collaborations, digital work, large scale works and live performance painting.

Horomona Horo:
Taonga Puoro expert Horomona Horo (Ngāpuhi, Taranaki, Ngāti Porou) is a leading practitioner of traditional Māori instruments, a composer, and performing artist. Widely recognised for his role in the revitalisation and global sharing of taonga pūoro, Horomona brings the voices of these treasured instruments into contemporary spaces. An Arts Foundation Laureate, Horomona creates space for Māori sound and story to resonate across generations and around the world.
