Faculty Highlight: Dr. Niranjan Chipalkatti

Celebrating the exceptional contributions of Dr. Niranjan Chipalkatti, affectionately known as Chips, Chair, Program Director, and Professor of Accounting at Seattle University's Albers School of Business and Economics!

With a background in B. Com. from the University of Mumbai and a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Dr. Chipalkatti is a distinguished member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and Founder Chair of the Seattle Chapter of ICAI.

Before transitioning to academia, Dr. Chipalkatti amassed valuable industry experience in India, working as an auditor at A.F. Fergusons and as an accounting manager at Hindustan Unilever. He also briefly ran a valuation consultancy business in Ohio.

Dr. Chipalkatti’s research focuses on the role of accounting information in reducing information asymmetry and building transparency in capital markets. His extensive research portfolio covers banking, ESG, capital flows to countries, carbon policy and pricing, entrepreneurship, and economic growth. His work has been published in esteemed journals such as the Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Risk Finance, and others.

In the classroom, Dr. Chipalkatti imparts his vast knowledge through financial accounting courses at various levels, including a specialized class on the fair valuation of intangible assets for financial reporting. His commitment to education is evident in his dedication to student success and academic excellence.

Beyond academia, Dr. Chipalkatti enjoys Hindustani classical music, making amaro, gardening, reading, hiking, and travel, reflecting his diverse interests and lifelong learning. He is married to Dr. Meenakshi Rishi, Professor of Economics at Seattle University, and together they have two children.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Chipalkatti for his unwavering commitment to our Center. Let's celebrate his exceptional impact in accounting and his dedication to our academic community!
