UW Derm residents Aisha Jamison, MD and Nora Alexander, MD, and Clinical Research Fellow Abhinav Janappareddi, served as UDOC workshop leaders for a hands-on Suturing Session and introduction to Dermatology for approximately 30 high school students.

UDOC is a free summer residential program for high school juniors held on the UW campus aimed at exposing students to an array of health professions.

"It was a pleasure partnering with pipeline programs like UDOC to expose, encourage, affirm, and foster high school students’ interest in healthcare careers through our suture workshop. Hopefully, we inspired a few future dermatologists along the way!" said Dr. Jamison. 🫶

The UW Derm residents recently attended Beyond Red: Erythema recognition across skin tones. The arts-based workshop was developed by Sydney Corey, a 4th year medical student. Corey hosted the session remotely from Boston. The residents explored color theory and paint mixing to recreate the color of inflammation in the skin tones shown above.

“It was a fun way to keep getting to know each other and explore morphology and description as we launch into this new year,” said Dr. Kalus, UW Dermatology Professor.

Many thanks to Dr. Kalus for coordinating this workshop for the residents!

Meet the UW Dermatology Co-Chief Residents!

💜Aisha Jamison, MD
💛Pragna Naidoo, MD, MHS

The department is honored to have them at the helm of the residency program! A few words from Dr. Jamison and Dr. Naidoo:

"Serving as Chief Residents for the University of Washington Dermatology Residency Program is one of the greatest privileges of our training. We have the opportunity to help lead and advocate for our residency program by coordinating the many moving pieces that keep it running, serving as a bridge between residents and faculty, and helping foster the collaborative, supportive, and welcoming culture that makes UW such a special place to train. Much of this work happens behind the scenes, but it is all centered on supporting our residents, our faculty, and our program.

To us, being chiefs is about giving back to the program and people who have given us so much. We love our co-residents, deeply value our faculty, and feel incredibly honored to have been entrusted with this responsibility. We were fortunate to learn from remarkable chiefs before us, and we hope to carry that same spirit of service, mentorship, and community throughout our year. If we can help our residents feel supported, our faculty feel appreciated, and our program continue to flourish, then we'll consider our year a success."
