The Kappa Deltas of the Sigma Iota chapter have been all over the map this summer. From Rome, to California, to Barcelona or hometown visits, we've been achieving what's honorable, beautiful, and highest worldwide. Our sisters have been hiking, traveling, working, and attending festivals and concerts, all while still making time to see their fellow KDs during these past few months. Although we will miss our boating adventures, sunny skies, and a much needed break from the school year grind, we couldn't be more excited to move back in to the 4524. We are already hard at work in preparation for Formal Fall Recruitment, and are so excited to welcome MC '22 with the best bid day yet! As always, you'll see us dancing, singing, and welcoming our new member class with open arms on September 16th. Stay tuned, and AOT!

Shamrock Shootout was a success!
Our first Shammy in three years!! We had so much fun watching our peers compete in the dunk contest, three-point shootout, wing-eating competition, and a weekend of KD March Madness! The funds raised from this event go toward our annual Reach for the Sky Auction next month in support of Seattle Children’s and Prevent Child Abuse America. For more information on our upcoming auction visit https://www.uwkdreachfortheskyauction2022.com/event-details/kappa-delta-reach-for-the-sky-auction ☘️💚

As we prepare to welcome new members into our chapter and welcome back active members this fall, the Sigma Iota chapter of Kappa Delta wants to share with you what we have been working on these last few months. We recognize the flaws of our system and by no means are excusing our roots of racism and injustice. As a chapter, we are diligently working to change the policies and structure that contribute to discrimination and exclusion in not only our chapter, but the Greek Community as a whole. We hope you take the time to read the action plan we have been working on and will continue to work on moving forward not only on a chapter level but also a national level.

As a chapter, we recognize that no statement will capture our outrage.

We are both angered and saddened by the recent murder of Mr. George Floyd. We recognize that the protests occurring across the country are a direct reflection of the hurt and suffering from the perpetual racism that is embedded in our nation’s history. We must do better.

As sorority women, it is our job to educate ourselves about the ways racism has been institutionalized in our country. Our nation was built upon systems of slavery and the tremors of that legacy are still being felt today. In addition, it is our job to educate ourselves about the ways sororities have contributed to that injustice. With our long history of prejudice, Panhellenic women must make the choice every day to be more than our white-washed history. We must move forward with unified, empathetic action to address the injustices occurring every day in our Greek community, in our nation, and in the world.

To our black peers and members, we see you, we hear you, and we stand with you. Members of the Seattle community come from all different walks of life. Now is the time to cherish that diversity. The black community has faced injustice for far too long and the protests that surround us should not be overlooked.

To allies, you must take a stand. Now is the time to petition, donate, write your legislators, protest, and vote. Use your privilege to jump to justice, not to judgment. Silence and ignorance are unacceptable.

To our sisters, Kappa Delta works to build confidence and inspire us to action. Now is the time to act. As college students, we must recognize our education as a privilege that propels us to speak up and demand necessary change. We stand with the Black Lives Matter movement and are compelled to work towards a more equal future within sororities, on college campuses, and nationwide.

With love,
Kappa Delta

Spring quarter has officially begun! In light of the uncertain and challenging times we find ourselves in today, we would like to draw upon some positives that the past few months have brought us as a chapter as well as a community. In February, our annual Reach for the Sky Auction took place at Newcastle Country Club. Organized by our incredible Marissa Mincy, we were able to raise $101,000 for Seattle Children's as well as our national philanthropy, Prevent Child Abuse America. As for our renowned Shamrock Shootout tournament, planned by our Vice President of Community Service Deepika Kamineni, we unfortunately decided to cancel. However, the support and love we received from our fellow chapters, athletic teams, and clubs lifted our spirits and showed us just how strong and passionate our community is. In addition to our philanthropy events, the new elected council officially transitioned into office. We would like to give a special thanks to our chapter president, Elise Korngut, who has bravely navigated the Sigma Iota members through these turbulent times. Lastly, we hope that everyone is safe and healthy as well as staying positive!❤️
