Last month, Alejandro Garcia graduated from South Seattle College with a bachelor's in Sustainable Building Science Technology. In recognition of his academic excellence and dedication, he also received the President's Medal of Scholarship.
Alejandro's educational journey is a testament to perseverance, hard work, and lifelong learning. He began by completing an apprenticeship with the Cement Masons & Plasterers Training Centers of Washington and earned his associate's in Multi-Occupational Trades, and continued his academic path toward a bachelor's degree in SBST.
When reflecting on his experience in the SBST program, Alejandro shared:
Honestly, everyone helped me in some shape or form. The environment created by both the faculty and students made it easy to ask questions and clear things up when concepts felt overwhelming... Sometimes it wasn’t about giving us the answers directly, but instead helping us understand where to find them and what thought process to use to solve problems ourselves... Over time, though, I started developing a more comprehensive understanding of the material and the bigger picture of why this field matters, and that makes me proud to be part of the program... I’m excited for the future and the opportunities that are coming next. I feel like this program opened my perspective to a lot more possibilities than I originally thought were available to me... To me, graduating means more opportunities and setting a standard for my kids to meet.
Congratulations, Alejandro, on this incredible accomplishment and well-deserved recognition. We are excited to see how you continue to shape the future through your knowledge, skills, and dedication.
