Not every day in pharmacy school is the best day ever. 💕
And you don’t have to pretend like it is.
💅 If Barbie taught us anything, it’s this:
No matter how perfect things look on the outside – giant blowout parties, planned choreography, bespoke songs and all – it’s what’s on the inside that really counts. And it’s okay to not be okay.
Ask these what they’re reaching for when the going gets tough, and their “accessories” include everything from Diet Coke with lime to Labubu.
Your self care starter pack could include a favorite tea, a stress ball, a playlist that hits just right or an oversized hoodie that doubles as emotional armor. Whatever it looks like for you, self care is only part of the story.
Your mental health isn’t something to turn away from until you have no choice but to face it – that’s a crisis.
Too many pharmacy students wait until they’re really struggling to seek support, and the overwhelm sounds a lot like this:
💜 How do I decompress without spending time or money I don’t have?
💛 Is what I’m experiencing even normal?
💜 I’ve lost sight of my “why.” Is this still worth it?
💛 How do I stay grounded in my values in a system that feels exhausting?
If questions like these have kept you up at night, you aren’t alone. They’re the same questions that come up every day for Emma Buchanan (), Clinical Mental Health Therapist for the School of Pharmacy.
She helps students manage academic, career and life stressors while building real-world skills in mindfulness, advocacy and emotional regulation.
Whether you need help clarifying your goals, decompressing in healthier ways or just someone to talk to, Emma’s here for you.
The bottom line:
Everyone has mental health, and caring for it regularly is just as important as studying for that next exam. What if caring for your headspace was as routine as charging your laptop or reviewing notes from therapeutics?
You don’t have to wait until you’re at your breaking point. Let’s make preventative mental healthcare part of the curriculum.
