Want to see University of Washington graduate students vie for cash prizes, by presenting their capstone or research projects in 3 minutes and using only 1 slide?! Join us for the 2026 UW Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition! The theme this year is Impact.

An esteemed panel of judges will select First Place and Runner Up winners and the in-person audience will vote for People’s Choice.

This free event is open to the UW community. Following the presentations, there will be a reception with free light foods and refreshments.

This event is a partnership between The Graduate School’s office of Graduate Student Affairs and UW Libraries Research Commons. Send questions to [email protected].

Please note: 3MT is not a drop-in event for presenters. There is an event process. Graduate students who successfully compete during the online preliminary round will move forward and present during the competition on May 21.

We’re excited to celebrate graduate students at GSEE & GSA’s Spring Soirée on Thursday, May 14 at wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ (Intellectual House) on UW Seattle’s campus. Graduate Student Equity & Excellence (GSEE) & Graduate Student Affairs (GSA) invite you to celebrate your milestones and all the big things yet to come with your graduate student peers.

This year we’re combining GSA’s First-Gen End of Year Celebration with GSEE's Spring Soirée for one unforgettable event! Our theme this year is Stronger Together. We are astonished by the GSEE & first-gen graduates who have crossed boundaries, overcome adversity, and balanced the weighty and real things of life and academia. Yet here you are, chasing and accomplishing your dreams! We will have student speakers, an informal cording ceremony, crafts, giveaways, music, food, and treats!

This event is open to first-gen and GSEE graduate students, GSEE alumni, and all continuing and graduating graduate students! Come celebrate the close of the academic year with us!

Are you a UW graduate student in the final stages of your capstone, thesis, or dissertation project? Apply to compete in the 2026 UW Three Minute Thesis (UW 3MT®), where you’ll have the opportunity to win cash prizes. The competition is open to all eligible graduate students from across the UW tri-campus.

UW 3MT® is a professional development competition that celebrates the exciting capstone and research experiences of master’s and doctoral students at the UW from all three campuses. The competition supports graduate students’ capacity to effectively explain their research or capstone project in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a public audience.
