The UW Japan Studies Program is a university-wide program of affiliate faculty, departments and degree programs devoted to promoting the understanding and knowledge of Japan. Now live! Bellevue Arts Museum recently launched the Living Traditions series, which celebrates the many cultures and traditions that help build a rich artistic culture in our community. The corresponding website is live and features “Japanese Art and Resilience in the Pacific Northwest”, an immersive online exhibit featuring essays, artist profiles, an interactive cultural map and more. This Sunday, Bellevue Public Library is kicking off Living Traditions, a new multicultural exhibition series running in conjunction with the Bellevue Arts Fair that celebrates the creative impact of communities across the Pacific Northwest. This first event is dedicated to the arts of Japan and will feature haiku and calligraphy demonstrations. This event is free and open to all.

Are you interested in studying in Japan? Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships for international students who want to further their studies at a Japanese college or university.
The Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle is now accepting applications for the 2027 MEXT Scholarships for students (U.S. citizens) of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, and Washington State. The deadline to apply is May 29, 2026.
