Play, Heal, Grow: Disaster Relief Project is organizing a disaster relief project for the Spokane area. This will be our 7th project since 2023 and we need the help our community to help bring sensory, play, art and comfort kits to the youth and families of Spokane.

Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the devastating Spokane wildfire and all wildfires happening throughout the US. In Spokane alone more than 600 homes have been destroyed so far and 5,000+ people evacuated, countless children and families are facing uncertainty, grief, and trauma.
Our team of trauma-informed mental health professionals is assembling Play, Sensory, Art and Comfort Kits filled with supplies including and not limited to art, sensory tools, children’s books, comfort items, and caregiver resources. These kits are designed to help youth begin healing during one of the most difficult times of their lives.

Unlike organizations that provide food, clothing, and shelter, the Play, Heal, Grow: Disaster Relief Project focuses specifically on children’s emotional and mental health an essential need that is often overlooked during disaster response.

Here’s how you can help: Amazon Wish List & GoFundMe- link in bio ☝🏼

🤝 Share this post to help us reach more families, businesses, and community partners.

🏢 Businesses and organizations interested in sponsoring healing kits or hosting supply drives are invited to contact us.

The Youth Empowerment Network is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and eligible donations may be tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Together, we can help youth and families play, heal, and grow—one child, one family, one kit, and one community at a time. Together we help this world shine brighter.

Supporting Spokane Families Through Disaster 💙

When disaster strikes, it changes everything overnight. At Olympia Therapy, we believe healing starts with the basics: safety, routine, and being truly seen.

A few reminders for supporting the kids in your life through crisis:
🏠 Basic needs first — food, sleep, and predictability are the foundation
💛 Hold their fear, don't fix it — "You're scared, and that makes sense. I'm right here."
🎨 Play is how kids heal — not talking, but doing (a cardboard fort, a rescued stuffed animal, a crayon drawing)

We're proud to support Play, Heal, Grow: Disaster Relief, a network of play therapists getting sensory tools, art supplies, and comfort items directly to Spokane clinicians, shelters, and families in need.

AI chatbots are increasingly part of children’s digital lives, with tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini and My AI being used for questions, ideas, homework support and content generation.

While these tools can create opportunities for learning and creativity, they also introduce important safeguarding, wellbeing and learning considerations.

Our latest guide supports parents, carers and educators in understanding how AI chatbots work and how to help young people use them responsibly.

The guide explores:
• Inaccurate information and the need for critical evaluation
• Inappropriate content and age-related concerns
• Academic dishonesty and over-reliance
• Emotional dependency and blurred boundaries
• Data privacy risks and safe use of settings

With clear, practical advice, this resource helps adults support safe, balanced and informed AI use.

Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is not a moment in history—it is an ongoing commitment to justice, dignity, and belonging for all.

Today we honor the resilience, strength, and contributions of Black Americans, while reflecting on the work that remains to create communities where every person feels seen, valued, and free to thrive.

As helpers, parents, educators, and neighbors, may we continue to listen, learn, and lead with courage, compassion, and connection.

This article in one sentence: Kids today can name their anxiety — but nobody taught them what to do about it. 🌱

Cary Hamilton, our director from Olympia Therapy is talking about something so real right now: kids are more mental-health-aware than ever, but often lack the everyday life skills to actually cope. From doing laundry to handling conflict, resilience is built one small practice at a time.

Read the full article to learn what age-appropriate life skills look like — and how parents can start building them today.
