On Friday, the Foster School wrapped up another successful Strategy Development Competition!(Also known as the MGMT 430 Capstone Case Competition.) With over 370 attendees, this was one of our biggest and most exciting days of the quarter!

This winter, we partnered with Brooks on the case: "Brook's Bold Move – Cracking the Kids Athletic Footwear Market.” Fifty teams of students proposed innovative solutions to how the leading running shoe company should position itself to best break into the kids footwear market or a comparable alternative growth initiative instead. More than 50 volunteer judges from Seattle's business community selected ten teams to move on from the preliminary rounds, and they competed in two finalist rooms.

Congratulations to the two teams who came in 1st place!

Team I3: Sophia Carney, Suhartanti Cuarsa, Emujin Enkhbayar, Jackie Hong, Kiyanaz Raveshti

Team J4: Graham Brower, Darin Hahn, Mckenna Nelson, Madeline Siu, Gabriel Wu

Thank you to everyone who made this event possible – the fine folks from Brooks as well as our judges, student volunteers, faculty advisors and case writers, Foster staff, and of course all of our student participants!

Team A2: Raleigh Dexel, John Guise, Christian LeRose, Luke Roe, Tegan Yuasa

Team B1: Luca Andonian, Kunal Mitra, William Olson, Julien Pitsch, Jacob Yang

This quarter, the UW Foster School of Business partnered with Ivar's Restaurants on the case: "Turning the Tide: Ivar's Strategy for Post-Pandemic Recovery." Twenty-seven teams of students presented creative solutions about how the legendary Seattle seafood company should position itself to meet more customer's needs and interests, suggested how to balance innovation vs tradition, and recommended operational or marketing actions. They analyzed Gen Z as an underserved segment and provided a financial analysis of their recommendation. Six teams moved on to the final round, with two teams emerging as the winners!

We had more than two-hundred attendees at today's action-packed competition. Thank you to Ivar's, our judges from Seattle's business community, and all of our staff and student volunteers for helping to make this event a success!
