Dr. Gloria Castro presents: Perinatal Mental Health: Supporting the transition from Pregnancy to Parenthood

SEPTEMBER 27, 2022 | 1:00PM – 4:00PM PDT via Zoom
SEPTEMBER 28, 2022 | 1:00PM – 4:00PM PDT via Zoom

5.5 Continuing Education Credits Available

This workshop provides an overview and an introduction to the theoretical framework and clinical implementation of Perinatal Child-Parent Psychotherapy (P-CPP), as a dyadic/triadic work during the various developmental stages of pregnancy, labor and delivery and the postnatal period. This treatment is used for expecting mothers and fathers whose readiness to nurture a baby is compromised by their histories of trauma and adverse childhood experiences. Clinical examples will be provided to illustrate the phases of treatment and application of clinical modalities.

Dr. Gloria Castro is a clinical psychologist who is currently working with the Child Trauma Research Program at UCSF. She has presented at national and international conferences and forums on the topics of perinatal mental health, parenting in a different culture, and on the impact of immigration on the sense of self and motherhood identity. She is also the co-author of the book: “Make Room for Baby: Perinatal Psychotherapy to Repair Trauma and Promote Attachment” that provides a framework for clinical interventions during the perinatal period.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCI) Feeding Scale Virtual workshop.
April 11 - 15, 2022

DEVELOP OBSERVATION SKILLS IN INFANT AND
EARLY CHILDHOOD MENTAL HEALTH
At the very foundation of infant mental health is the ability to skillfully observe a caregiver and their infant during an interaction. We know that attuned caregiver-child interactions lead to better health and mental health outcomes for children. We also know that interactions can range from attuned to mis-attuned, or somewhere in the middle.

HOW DO SERVICE PROVIDERS DEVELOP THEIR OBSERVATION
SKILLS, THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE UNDERLYING INTERACTIONAL QUALITY BETWEEN CAREGIVER AND INFANT?
THROUGH PRACTICE AND GUIDANCE.
Learning the PCI Feeding scale provides the training and practice needed to conduct a reliable and valid observation of a caregiver-infant interaction. This training gives you concrete areas to guide intervention and encourage positive parent-child interactions.

10/01/2021

The NCIT Capacity-Building Hub, along with the Los Angeles African American Infant and Maternal Mortality Prevention Initiative, Every Mother Counts, Restoring Our Own Through Transformation (ROOTT), and the National Health Law Program, invite you to the webinar, Improving Birth Outcomes: Strengthening Awareness of and Support for State and Community Doula Networks.
Doula care is a method for improving birth outcomes and reducing rates of maternal morbidity and mortality among birthing people of color. In many states doula care is not routinely covered by health insurance, thus intentional collective efforts should be made to recognize, promote and compensate doulas for their role in achieving equitable outcomes. Making doula care sustainable is essential for birthing people with the highest prevalence of adverse birth outcomes.
In this webinar, participants will hear about:
• What doulas do and different models of doula support.
• The evidence on the benefits of doula care and how doula care can help address birth equity.
• Which states have proposed and enacted doula policies with a focus on Medicaid coverage.
• Key considerations in operationalizing a high-quality LA County community doula program focused on addressing birth disparity, inclusive of hiring, training, funding and program design.
• A Black women-led advocacy organization in the state of Ohio that offers affordable doula services, health-care provider trainings, and organizational consultation.
When: Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 1 p.m. ET
Facilitator:
 Andrea Palmer, Program Officer, Pritzker Children’s’ Initiative
Speakers:
• Alexis Robles-Fradet, M.P.H, Policy Analyst, National Health Law Program
• Melissa R. Franklin, Ed.D., M.B.A., Chief Executive Officer, Growth Mindset Communications; Pritzker National Fellows Network; Los Angeles African American Infant and Maternal Mortality Prevention Initiative
• Michelle L. Sanders, Doula, CLEC, Doula Program Coordinator, Division of Maternal, Child, & Adolescent Health, Health Promotion Bureau at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Los Angeles African American Infant and Maternal Mortality Prevention Initiative
• Jessica Roach, M.P.A., Founder and CEO, Restoring Our Own Through Transformation (ROOTT)
• Nan Strauss, J.D., Managing Director of Policy, Advocacy, and Grantmaking, Every Mother Counts
We hope you'll join us.
Gerry Cobb
Director, Pritzker Children's Initiative
