In our second edition of "Faculty Voices," our new series of op-eds from Seattle U Law professors, the Center for Civil Rights and Critical Justice advocates on behalf of the July bar exam candidates who were seated in the accommodations room. Like the rest of the test-takers, they also experienced significant tech difficulties that disrupted the exam, but because they were able to finish the test, they were not included in the Washington Supreme Court's diploma privilege decision. We're biased, but we think the Student Organization Fair and Welcome Barbecue are some of the most fun parts about coming back to school! Dozens of student organizations, co-curricular groups, student services, and legal associations set up shop in Sullivan Hall to connect with other students and let people know about the exciting events they have coming up this school year. The sun came out in time for everyone to catch up after the summer break over burgers and hot dogs in the courtyard. Welcome back, Redhawks!

Distinguished Practitioner in Residence Steve Tapia, who teaches in Seattle U Law's Technology, Innovation Law, and Ethics (TILE) Institute, talked to KIRO 7 News about a trademark infringement lawsuit filed by a Seattle Christian metal band called Demon Hunter against Netflix over the title of its popular "KPop Demon Hunters" film.

We're welcoming 16 new LLM students this semester from Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Egypt, India, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Mongolia, Russia, South Korea, Turkey, Ukraine, and the U.S. Graduating from Seattle U Law's LLM Program allows international students who have earned law degrees in other countries to sit for licensing exams in many U.S. states without having to earn a JD. The new students are pictured here during Orientation Week in the courtroom, where they got to know one another over lunch.
