Join us for Out of Scope: Rare Book and Book Arts in Special Collections, where Julie Tanaka, Associate Dean for Distinctive Collections, will share the history, artistry, and craftsmanship behind rare books and artist books from UW Special Collections—including additional treasures beyond those featured in the exhibit.

Featured highlights include:
Hyperion: A Romance (1858) by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow—this 20th edition includes a handwritten letter from Longfellow to publisher George W. Childs, along with other hidden gems.

🎠 We Are Not Amused by Julie Chen—a carousel artist book that juxtaposes vintage amusement park and circus imagery with contemporary female experiences.

Aunt Sally's Lament, designed by Clair Van Vliet with a poem by Margaret Kaufman—an intricate artist book featuring layered paper cutouts that unfold into a 105-inch diamond-pattern quilt.
