Over winter break, two outreach trips full of students, staff, and community members had amazing experiences in North Carolina and Puerto Rico. In North Carolina, they went to Bat Cave to help out local Episcopal churches to assist families after the devastating Hurricane Helene through water and home restoration and clean up. In Puerto Rico, they went to Luquillo and other parts of Puerto Rico to learn more about the ecological and political climate and worked on farms, in forests, and on beaches to help combat the environmental damage being done. Both groups had insightful and enlightening authentic conversations with local communities, where they learned a lot about environmental impacts and what communities they disproportionately affect.
