On Tuesday, our Uzziah Ag Scholars participating in our Ag Academy were able to meet with a local producer to learn more about his side business of being in seed sales. Students learned that diversity on a farm doesn’t just have to be the diversification of crops, but also the diversification of income. Thanks Cole for letting us tour your shop, learn more about Golden Harvest, and for working with students all year throughout the Ag Academy to expose them to the producer point of view in all aspects of farming!

Also special thank you to Kris Kocian for all the work she has done with students this year throughout the Ag Academy. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Last night we hosted the Regenerative Agriculture in Practice: Uzziah Scholars Student Showcase and discussion forum🌱

Our Uzziah Ag Scholars shared insights from the Regenerative Nexus at Green Cover Seed, reflecting on regenerative agriculture topics such as adding diversity, w**d and pest control, livestock integration, nutrient management, and soil health and human health connections. Some regenerative practices mentioned multiple times include keeping the soil covered, creating diversity, reducing tillage, supporting soil microbiology, and integrating livestock.

The evening included student presentations, thoughtful discussion, and collaboration with regenerative agriculture students joining virtually from Texas State University.

We are so grateful for the students, faculty, and community members who joined and added to the conversation about the future of regenerative agriculture. 🌾

After two days of learning, networking, and leveling up, our female students gained a wealth of knowledge at the Nebraska Women in Ag Conference last week! From many workshops, students learned about direct sales and marketing, beef ration formulation, aquifer makeup and the importance of ground water, the importance of sleep, rural first aid, and the power of leadership. These students showed up, engaged, and left inspired to make a difference in agriculture! Thank you for a great conference, and investing in the future of women in agriculture! 🌾👩‍🌾

Following our time at the Green Cover Seed Regenerative Nexus, Dr. Dennis Brink, former professor at Concordia, graciously shared insights from the third day of the conference, sessions our students were unable to attend.

As students reflected on his article, several themes deeply resonated:

“Stopping and enjoying God’s creation isn’t a luxury — it’s a necessity.”

“Teach the why before the what.”

“Regenerative ag is more than a sales pitch for the newest trend.”

“Farming should build up the community, not just raise a crop.”

“Farms need to be places people want to return to.”

Each of these reflections points back to the powerful epilogue:
“Regenerative farming isn’t just about soil and seeds and seasons. It’s about the regeneration of faith, purpose, and community.”

We’re grateful for the continued conversations about what it means to cultivate not just land, but people and purpose as well.

Last week, students attended the multiple-day, Green Cover Regenerative Nexus in Omaha. Students learned from experts in the field about adding diversity to your farm, w**d and pest control, livestock integration, nutrient management, and human health and soil health connections. This event allowed students to network with industry professionals and learn the newest techniques in regenerative agriculture.

Please join us in the Dunklau Lecture hall at 7:00 PM on March 4th to hear more about what students learned and participate in our discussion forum!

Yesterday Uzziah Scholars students braved the cold weather to assess the conditions, topography, and soil on a crop field. Students will spend the week creating a comprehensive 4-year crop plan that includes what they would plant and when, what conservation strategies they would use on the field, and what risk management strategies they see fit. Real-world application projects like these allow students to step into the shoes of a producer and experience the planning involved in agriculture.
