Phaze 2 gallery is pleased to present Just Imagined a solo exhibition by Liz Lescault on view April 13, 2026 - May 15 with an opening reception to be held on Tuesday, April 21 from 4 PM to 6 PM.
Bio:
Liz Lescault, a self-taught artist, is recognized for her biomorphic sculpture. Her artistic journey began with clay, initially as a potter and subsequently as a sculptor. In "Just Imagined", my sculptures involve a variety of media. Some pieces are composed solely of clay, others solely of extruded filament and others are combined with mixed media including glass, clay and found objects.Throughout her career, Liz has received numerous awards including the Maryland State Individual Artist’s Award. She has also staged seven solo exhibitions and participated in many group shows. She was a member of Red Dirt Studios, an art incubator and seminar, before becoming a member of Otis Street Arts Project, a studio, exhibition space, and art incubator. Liz lived in Africa for six years where she studied traditional ceramic techniques. A selection of her work is part of the permanent collection at the National Museum of Botswana. Subsequently she resided in France, where she studied watercolor. Over the years, Liz has taught both children and adults across various media and currently she is an online art facilitator for Smith Center and the Healing Arts.

“My sculpture is biomorphic, combining elements from all forms and stages of life—active and inert, living and dead. My work can be simultaneously sensual, scientific, and contemplative."In "Just Imagined", my sculptures involve a variety of media. Some pieces are composed solely of clay, others solely of extruded filament and others are combined with mixed media including glass, clay and found objects. They invoke organic life forms intended to feel familiar, yet are entirely imagined and improvisational in process. I begin with the seed of an idea and allow each piece to evolve spontaneously. The fine filaments that compose my sculptures create delicate shadows, which become an integral part of the work, sometimes indistinguishable from the sculptures themselves. I am fascinated by remnants that illuminate the essence of organic forms. Shadows, fossils, and residue are a part of an object’s story and are used in scientific discovery. Remnants and shadows tell us more about the existing nature of an object, enhancing our perception of it.”
