Employment Skills Center, in partnership with the Redevelopment Authorities of Cumberland County, is offering a free Environmental Technician Training program.

The 7-week course is supported with funding from the US Environmental Protection Agency and includes classroom instruction, hands-on experience, and site visits that will prepare participants for careers in environmental science and related fields. Participants will receive training and earn certifications that include OSHA 30 for Construction, HAZWOPER 40, Asbestos Inspection, Lead-Based Paint Inspection, Confined Space Entry, and CPR/First Aid. Program participants will also receive safety gear and a bi-weekly stipend. Training and community partners include Pennoni, Lancaster Safety Consulting, Inc., Harrisburg University, Shippensburg University, Project SHARE of Carlisle, and Carlisle Borough. You’ll oversee a section responsible for evaluating permits, setting water quality requirements, and supporting statewide environmental goals. You’ll guide staff, review technical documents, and make recommendations that protect communities and natural resources.

What you’ll do:
✅Permit Oversight: Review applications, engineering reports, and specifications for environmental compliance
✅Staff Leadership: Supervise employees, provide training, and evaluate completed tasks
✅Environmental Analysis: Develop effluent limits and assess water quality impacts
