Congratulations, Kenzie! Keep up the exceptional work!

Congratulations to Kenzie Basco, our Lily Award recipient, which honors a nursing student who demonstrates grace, resilience and devotion while answering the call to heal, comfort and serve.

Kenzie is recognized for the extraordinary perseverance and compassion she showed throughout nursing school, even while facing profound personal challenges. During her academic journey, she welcomed two children who required extended care in our NICU, all while continuing her coursework, clinical responsibilities and professional development.

Through those experiences, Kenzie deepened her empathy and strengthened her commitment to patient-centered care. Her journey as a student at Northwestern State University - CENLA Campus reflects the strength of our partnership in preparing compassionate, highly skilled nurses to serve our communities.

We are proud to celebrate Kenzie and her classmates as they carry these qualities into every patient interaction and continue their journey as exceptional future nurses.

✨ Meet Charity Wesley, RT(R)(CT), a dedicated Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist and current Master of Science in Radiologic Sciences student at NSU. ✨ Charity earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology and an Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology in December 2020 and completed her Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology in May 2025.

👉 In her current role, she balances technical expertise with compassionate patient care by reviewing imaging orders, ensuring proper positioning, assessing IV access for contrast, and closely monitoring patients throughout each scan. She also values meaningful patient connections, taking time to listen and provide reassurance during what can often be a stressful experience.

Looking ahead, Charity hopes to teach at the university level to inspire future healthcare professionals. Her advice to students is simple but powerful: Always remember that healthcare is centered on people first. While technical skills are essential, compassion, curiosity, and a commitment to lifelong learning are what truly define a great healthcare provider.

Charity’s dedication is a wonderful example of what it means to lead with both knowledge and heart. 💜 🧡 Do you know an NSU alum making a difference? We'd love to share their story! 🤘

🌸 We’re blooming with pride as we celebrate one of our amazing alumni, Lakyn Aymond, MSN, APRN, ACNPC-AG, FNP-C! 🌸

Lakyn began her nursing journey after earning her BSN in 2015. She built a strong foundation at the bedside as an ICU nurse, specializing in transplant and surgical critical care nursing. Her dedication to advancing her practice led her to earn her MSN and achieve her Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification in 2020, right in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. During this challenging time, she transitioned into an ICU NP role at Willis-Knighton North, managing complex cardiac, transplant, and medical cases.

☀️ Continuing to expand her impact, Lakyn went on to launch her own telehealth business and earned her post-master’s certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2025. Today, she balances multiple roles, serving as the 2nd Level Coordinator and Assistant Professor in the 4th Level of the BSN program at NSU while continuing her work as a nurse practitioner across long-term acute care, ICU, pulmonary, and emergency department settings.

This season of growth is extra special because Lakyn is also preparing to welcome her first baby this summer! 🐣🌷 When she’s not making an impact in healthcare and education, she enjoys life with her husband, her two pups Mac and Mae, and everyone’s favorite feline, Kitty Kitty Meow Meow.

Lakyn shares her gratitude to Northwestern State University, crediting NSU with providing an outstanding educational foundation that helped shape her career and passion for nursing.

Join us in celebrating Lakyn’s dedication, leadership, and commitment to advancing patient care and educating the next generation of nurses! Do you know an NSU alum making a difference? Send us a message so we can share their story! 🤘
