As a first-generation college student herself, Dr. Adrienne Davis knows what it feels like to enter college without knowing the unspoken rules. She once left college because she felt like she didn’t belong. Years later, she returned, earned three degrees (two from LSUS), and now stands on the other side of the classroom helping students navigate the same journey.

At the 2026 First-Year Convocation, Dr. Davis shared her story of finding a sense of belonging while navigating the "hidden curriculum" as a first-generation student. And everyone at LSUS agrees with her advice: "Find someone on campus, a professor or a mentor, who you feel like you can connect with. Go to their office hours, introduce yourself, ask them questions. Ask them the questions I was too scared to ask."

LSUS is filled with professors, mentors, advisors, tutors, counselors, and fellow Pilots who are ready to help you feel anchored in the Pilot community.

LSU Shreveport public health student Ahmed Ghazawneh recently presented undergraduate research at the International Coordination Chemistry Conference, a prestigious global event that brought together researchers in the field.

Working alongside chemistry professor Dr. Henry Nkabyo, Ahmed studied chemical compounds that show potential for the future development of new antimicrobial agents. Although chemistry isn't his major, Ahmed says the experience has strengthened skills he'll carry into whatever comes next.

Thanks to the Student Activities Board at LSUS for kicking off the first week of the fall semester with events that brought our Pilots together!

We capped off the week with our 10th annual Freshman Convocation, where we honored the future class of 2030.

We're only one week in, but we know this is going to be the best semester yet! ⚓

At LSU Shreveport’s annual Campus Kickoff, faculty and staff gathered to reflect on the University’s trajectory and look ahead to what’s next.

We celebrated achievements in rising credit hours, historically high retention rates, 29 new faculty members, and the renovations and progress happening all around campus.

We also honored mathematics faculty members Melinda Cassel and Rogers Martin with the Chancellor's Spirit of LSUS Award because of their work in course redesign and high-impact teaching practices!

LSUS Fishing earned a strong start to the season with all four boats finishing well inside the top half of the 134-boat field at the 2026 Strike King Bassmaster College Championship on Leech Lake this past weekend.

After finishing last season ranked No. 9 nationally, LSUS Fishing is already off to an encouraging start as the team sets its sights on breaking into the national top five.

After claiming three national titles last season, LSU Shreveport Debate Team has earned another impressive recognition: #10 among the Top 50 college debate programs in the United States, according to American Liberty Media. 🏆

The Pilots are the only public regional university in the Top 20, ranking alongside nationally recognized programs at Kansas, the University of Chicago, Rice, Yale and Michigan, and even ahead of Harvard and Princeton.
