At Wednesdayโ€™s annual "State of the U" address, Chancellor Dr. Robert Smith updated the LSUS student population on a number of ways the campus is growing while continuing to keep a college education affordable and accessible.

Highlights included:
โ€ข LSUS has saved students $4.7 million by offering free or low-cost resources in classes
โ€ข A sneak peak at our plans for an upcoming Health & Wellness Hub
โ€ข Continued renovations across campus, including upgrades to The Port Grille's dining area this December

Last month, LSUS Weightlifting made its mark at the Virus Weightlifting Series 2 meet in Fort Worth, with Bryson Brown (left) and Kyle Martin Jr. (right) each setting national records.

It is the second time that both lifters have set records in their respective weight classes, with Kyle lifting 181 kg during a clean and jerk in the 95-kilogram class and Bryson lifting 133kg during a sn**ch in the 70-kg class. ๐Ÿ’ช

And they werenโ€™t alone. Seven LSUS lifters won their weight classes, while LSUS athletes claimed four of the top six spots among junior men and three of the top six among junior women in the best lifter rankings.

LSUS Counseling Services' "Resilience Through Dark Times" exhibit is taking a new approach this year, inviting LSUS students to explore how their emotions change like the seasons and the passions and practices that help them feel grounded. ๐Ÿ‚

Students can submit art, poetry, essays or other creative work for the exhibit, which will open Oct. 19 in Noel Memorial Library and remain on display through November.

Participation is open to face-to-face and online students at LSUS, and the deadline to submit is October 9th.

More than 20 years after "Real Women Have Curves" made waves for putting Latina women and body image at the center of the story, playwright and screenwriter Josefina Lopez is coming to Shreveport.

Join LSUS and the Shreveport Little Theatre for โ€œAn Afternoon with Playwright Josefina Lopezโ€ this Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Womanโ€™s Department Club.

Lopez will be joined by local panelists Vita Riner and LSUS alum Sam Ortiz for a conversation about the themes at the heart of her work and what her story means to our community today.

The event is free and open to the public, thanks to support from the LSUS Foundation, the Ruth Herring Noel Endowed Chair and community partners. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required.

And if you want to see Lopezโ€™s work come to life on stage, Shreveport Little Theatre will present Real Women Have Curves October 15โ€“25.

According to LSUS economist Doug White, the answer is complicated.

The latest data from Center for Business and Economic Research at LSU Shreveport LSUSโ€™s Center for Business and Economic Research paints a mixed picture of the local economy, with inflation, unemployment and housing prices raising concerns while activity at Shreveport Regional Airport, local casinos and the construction sector continues to show signs of resilience.
